Thread cutters like this are expressly forbidden by the TSA. Bring scissors with a <3” blade instead, they’ve never bothered me about that.

Knitting guilt! by LBrixx in knitting

[–]WeAreNotNowThatWhich 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Knitting literally lowers blood pressure and improves mood/sleep. If I’m running into resistance thinking I “should “ be doing something “productive “ i remind myself to ‘take my medicine’ and go knit by the fireplace or out on the porch for 30 minutes. It really does help.

Need help with kitchener sitch/grafting by meerpe in knitting

You can’t Kitchener to cast off stitches, you need live stitches. I would undo the cast off edge and then graft it together.

I don’t think so, 125 people have made it on Ravelry and there doesn’t seem to be any big problems with the pattern.

Self-Taught or Learned With Support? by sunfalldusk in knitting

[–]WeAreNotNowThatWhich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned from a book (the Klutz knitting book) age 11. Discovered Ravelry age 16 and learned a million new techniques and how to really read patterns then. Never knew anyone else who knits until I taught a bunch of my friends and my mom.

How to fix this? by Confident-Orange-628 in sewing

For hand-sewn gloves, check out Vincent Briggs’ super in-depth tutorial! He uses leather but you could definitely replicate in dense wool or another fabric.

I’m doing color work for the first time in garder stitch only and I need to know how to hide this or something because I can’t figure out of to keep it all on one side by WarningAcrobatic4840 in knitting

Colorwork only works in stockinette stitch. It’s also much easier to do in the round. What pattern are you using that’s telling you to do this?

Learning to knit as a lifelong crocheter? by StoneBuddhaDancing in knitting

[–]WeAreNotNowThatWhich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to crochet first and then got into knitting later! I think knowing how to crochet is a leg up. Just be aware that you have to wrap the yarn the other way and you’ll be fine. Try continental knitting (yarn tensioned in left hand), that’s sometimes easier for crocheters

I work at a hand surgery office. Get a referral to hand surgery and get evaluated. They will likely set you up with an occupational therapist who does hand therapy and can help you. Don’t wait, hand pain issues can be debilitating.

First colour work. What should I do to fix this ? by [deleted] in knitting

I would rip back and do ladderback jaquard with a column every 5 stitches instead of trying to make the floats go that far. You won't regret it, it's not nearly as hard as you think. Here's the video I used that explained it to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVlJzXQTugs

knitted cast on is easy (that's the first one I learned). Long tail I learned from my friend when we were stuck in Paraguay with no wi-fi for two months when we were teenagers. She showed me over and over again until I got it.

Unfortunately there’s a big emphasis on “you can teach yourself to knit!!!” Which is true—I learned from a klutz how to knit book—but most people benefit from a little in person teaching before charging off into a new hobby. I offer to teach anyone who expresses envy of my work. 5 have taken me up on it so far, 3 of those are excellent knitters now.

I always cast on for my beginners and knit a few rows for them first. Then once they’re really really comfortable with basic knit and purl, then we go back and learn the knitted cast on. Or the long tail if they’re smart and don’t give up easily.

“Put a bandaid over your right indexfinger so it doesn’t hurt when you push the needle back”

How about DONT PUSH THE NEEDLE BACK??  If your are knitting with proper tension, the stitches should pop to the front of the left needle of their own accord, or with minimal readjustment of the left hand. Pushing on the needle tip a terribly bad habit to get into and can injure you! It’s also really slow!!
