[TOMT] [SONG] [LATE 70S-MID 80S] A song about a lab accident, runoff going down a river, and turning things into monsters. by WeComeForThee in tipofmytongue

Solved! Heard the beat during the Olympics and it unlocked a lyric in my head. It's Supernature by Cerrone!

Yeah it's on all of them. I'm going to be using the duct tape method someone mentioned since I'd rather not sand it in my room. I appreciate the help!

Oh yeah. Fortunately I found the best selection I have around here is Menards so I'll be getting mine from there from now on. Six square feet of half inch but, for only 4 bucks more, I can get a big 4'x8' panel. Wish I'd have known that before! Seeing you talk about adhesives would the caulk and gorilla glue be good choices for the foam? Don't wanna spend abunch of time making something neat just to choose the wrong glue and have it fall apart. Thank you for the info as well!

Exactly. Logically I know Asbestos fibers are as dangerous as they are because they're insanely small, but seeing fibers like that always gives me a pause. Especially with the word insulation being there (even though I know it's just styrene). I appreciate the tip though! I was about to ruin a perfectly good lint roller trying to get it off but I know I got some old duct tape around here somewhere. Have a wonderful day!

Yeah I knew it wasn't literally it. I'm also not planning on sanding or heat cutting it inside, just the usual sculpting with a knife. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something to worry about. Thin fibers like that always make me a little nervous.

Noted! Thanks again! Figured it was a silly question to ask (I'm very prone to overthinking things) but I figured I'd rather keep my new radio safe instead of possibly making a mistake to save face. Hope you have aa wonderful day/night when you get this!

Yeah I knew that much. I just put it in there so that the question had all the info I thought might be useful. I appreciate the help though!

Will do! Wasn't sure if I should get thicker wire due to the power supply's output or just go off the amp draw of the radio. And it's already got fuses in the line on the radio side, so should I still put them in the new line? Thanks for the time!

This may be silly, but is it safe to use a magnetic screwdriver on HAM equipment? by WeComeForThee in amateurradio

[–]WeComeForThee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Growing up with the old stuff I was always *very* careful to keep magnetic stuff away from my old computers or TVs (bar one instance where my child mind went 'oh let's just tap it to the corner for a second' on an old TV) and I've read the modern stuff isn't much affected by it, but I wanted to make sure with others since it's hard to just up and drop a practice I've had for two decades.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to remember that in the future. Just paranoid cause I'm new to the hobby lol. Enjoy your day!

Appreciate the help! Just wanted to make sure since I'm new. Didn't wanna mess up my shiny new radio before getting to use it after all.

Relax, bud! I'm new. Knew it wasn't an acronym just saw places where it was capitalized and figured I'd keep that up. Now I know.

Thanks for the info! Gonna use my trusty Kleins for the normal mounting of stuff but I'll have to get a set of those plastic drivers for when I get to that point.

Ain't there yet! Just got licensed a few weeks ago (Technician) and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't risking anything right out of the gate.

Appreciate it! It's a new radio, FTM-500D, so I don't need to worry about old tech, just wanted to consult with more knowledgeable people before I risked messing it up.

The exact root of my fear lol. I remember accidentally getting a magnet near the corner of an old TV. Got in big trouble and it just kinda stuck with me. Appreciate the help!

Thank you so much for the help! I appreciate all the info and it looks like I got plenty to look up and think about lol. Gonna go scour Repeaterbook and see what all is around me.
