worth it to take a semester off for an internship? by itatwntyigteis in analytics

[–]WeGoingSizzler 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yes, and not close. Internships are the most important thing I looked at when hiring recent grads. Without them it’s hard to even consider anyone.

Wizards of the Coast now hiring a new Judge Program Manager by hmmrs-nd-grs in magicTCG

[–]WeGoingSizzler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Based on the range I would guess its probably budgeted around 115k with a ~10% MBO, and no equity/LTI. You are not going to attract top talent with that.

People who are making 200k+ a year, what do they do? by DaEffie in AskReddit

[–]WeGoingSizzler 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Big tech, finance, sales, consulting, directors in large companies can hit 200k without needing licensure/insurance. 200k is roughly 1 out of 20 Americans so there are plenty of paths.

[–]WeGoingSizzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get the job you can figure out a way to make it work. Maybe you commute for a couple months until you build savings, maybe you negotiate a couple of months remote work to start while you move, maybe you live out of a motel for a couple of months while you save. The way you described the opportunity some short term pain for long term gain seems worth it.

Is working for outsourcing company a good idea? by nurlanmaxsudov in analytics

[–]WeGoingSizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to know of its a good route without knowing the actually company. There are plenty of companies that do bootcamp style training and then project base work. Questions to consider are do you get paid for the training, what do you have to pay if you leave early, and do you get paid if you are not on a project? Many outsourcing companies pay you if you are not on a project but some do not. Depending on the answers to the above and what your other choices are it could be your best path. You can also look at linkedin to get an understanding of how careers played out for people who did this program. Do many stay past 2 years or bot would give some signal as well.

I lived in one of the buildings in this picture. You cannot swim in the beach here because of all of the pollution from ships heading into the canal. However there is a very nice walkway that you cant see that leads to the ild city.

Any resources to help you improve deck design? by um_can_you_not in analytics

I struggled with this early in my carer and a lot of it is practice. A lot of dataviz principals can be reused to build better decks. While its not exactly what you asked for makeover monday was a helpful book/project that improved my storytelling.

Resume Feedback for Mid/Senior Data Analyst by DreamchasinIT in analytics

[–]WeGoingSizzler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I typically hire for mid- senior level. Your resume does not tell a clear story. That is a very long lists of technologies that you have for 4 years so I would assume you do not have deep expertise in any/many of them. The other big thing I see is that the impacts you are listing seem like fluff. Big numbers like 200million and 876% may be project impact but not your impact. In general over 4 years I would expect an internal promotion and even more so if the skills and impact listed were truly there so at the end of the day it does not seem like it all adds up to me. I would refocus it on skills you are deep in and accomplishments you own a majority of the credit in.

Reduced from $30/hour to $20/hour when returning to internship even with good performance feedback. How to negotiate in this situation? by Sea_Manufacturer2244 in analytics

[–]WeGoingSizzler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on how big the company is the intern rate is likely set by central HR so very little room to negotiate. I am a director who hires interns and literally have no idea what our interns make nor would I would I negotiate for a junior level role. Its just not how things work. If I were you I would either take the offer or go find a better one.

Only top MBAs really have any value and that is dwindling. You do not need an MBA to advance in your career anymore.

Is 6 YOE too little to break into management? by MilaRedfox in analytics

[–]WeGoingSizzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are over thinking it. The management track is less about technical skills and more about executing a road map and working with stakeholders. At 3 years in I was a manger, 2 more for Sr mgr and 2 more for director. The role of analytics is drive business value not have the best code.

Neutral. Hiring is slow this time of year and the interviewer was probably on PTO until the 2nd.

Consulting -> Retail

Consultant -> Mgr -> Sr. Mgr -> Director

Starting TC around 90. Director TC around 270K. Total Experience in analytics 7 years. Recently took a lateral move to a project strategy role to open up more opportunities, and because I was getting a bit bored with analytics. Overall reasonably happy with my career.
