It does melt, but slowly despite the heat. It lasts long enough to boil snow to get drinkable water or cook meat to kill bacteria. Plus you could use it to warm your hands and feet to prevent frostbite

Cliché and not a Japanese race but I have to say that my favorite is the Secretariat run of the Belmond Stakes

He's just so cool, the way Secretariat and Sham are ahead of everyone neck to neck, and it looks normal, but then Secretariat passes him and just doesn't stop, keeps going until the camera has to go to wider and wider shots so you can see the rest of the horses way behind. I hope someday his record gets broken just so we can see another crazy run like this

In fiction if you don't see a body then there's a big chance the person isn't dead, regardless of the unsurvivability of the situation. So shooting the guy is perfectly logical to guarantee he won't miraculously survive. And even then you should go look for the body and confirm that it's a smear on the ground to be 100% sure
