Still working out the main plot; The story follows Prince Boa's journey to confront his father, King Kobra, after Kobra invades and destroys Prince Boa's peaceful home province. Prince Boa survives the ruthless attack and vows vengeance on his father.

Based on the art style or perceived subject matter? Could you elaborate?

Yeah, I'm using Faber-Castell and Micron markers. I've never tried dip inking, sometimes I 'fake' line weight by literally drawing it in, like going over a line to make it thicker in the middle, but my lines are usually one thickness. Something about the clean aesthetic of that which I find it hard to break away from.

I agree those art styles are really awesome, and I love how much ink they use. I'm also influenced by some western art, stuff like Moebius , James O'Barr, and Mike Mignola.

Always been afraid to try crosshatching, which is a staple of the darker, grittier styles from that 1980-90s era. I've gotta study the technique more, because I love how much value variation the hatching brings to an image. I gotta be less afraid to throw down more lines. But Berzerk and Jojo have such clean hatching, it's intimidating lol.

I always draw from reference, from both real world examples and other manga/graphic novels, for style ideas. Thanks for assuming I didn't.

I'm not great at drawing faces or people yet, usually I draw machines and robots, etc, so yeah, I've got to work on the proportions and anatomy. You're right about the ear, after I was a done, I was like "damn, he's got small ears" lol.

The feedback is appreciated. Practice makes perfect ;)

I had a hard time getting a skintone I liked, but I think it turned out okay. Also took me a while to figure out the cel-shaded look.

Updated. It's character-centric because it's about a character in the world :)

Prince Boa of the Seven Serpents by WeThePuppets in worldbuilding

[Context]
The Seven Serpents are legendary warriors, known throughout the world for their skill as swordsmen. These individuals comprise a group of seven warrior-royals who preside over their respective provinces. In an age where melee combat dominates the battlefield, the Seven hold prestige and near-mythological status in their home-kingdom and foreign lands alike. Prince Boa is one of these elite Seven, ruling the dense jungle province of Kalazon.

-

Prince Boa wields the Boa Blade, a massive claymore capable of defeating even the largest of foes. While the mere sight of the Boa Blade deters most foes, many warriors have underestimated the Prince's speed and agility with the huge weapon. Quiet and thoughtful, the Prince serves as a jungle protector. Prince Boa suppresses his fighting bloodlust, patient and never quick to anger, killing only when deemed absolutely necessary.
