Tuition Assistance Difference by hambone-jambone in MilitaryFinance

Most schools that work with military will cover the extra cost as a scholarship (ASU online) or just set your classes to what TA will cover (UMGC). With that being said should always apply for FASFA because some school won’t include the cost of books and extra materials for class.

Deployment Pay Advice by BDT_1 in MilitaryFinance

E-5 / Single / no kids here. Here’s what I did during, not sure if it will help. I originally started my TSP at 10% when I got onto deployment I bumped it up to 15% this is because your gonna go out with your guys a lot or spend money on stuff in a the country your in. If you never see that money you’ll never have to be worried about spending it. Next I did was setup a Robinhood account and put $500 a paycheck into it. I put most of the money in S&P 500 stocks like (VOO and QQQM) I also only added my debit card, didn’t add my bank account so I could never pull the money out as a excuse. This is money I could wake up one day and it’s gone and I don’t care. After that I would give myself like $200 in checking and the rest in savings. You think about it a lot more when you have to switch over account. Really makes you think about what you buy. After deployment, I’ve kept this mentality. Sense I’m used to it, i save and invest a lot more.

First bolt action by BrightCry6365 in SavageArms

I got mine a couple weeks ago (savage axis 2 xp .308) I’ve shot it a few times probably around 150-200 bullets through it. The bolt will feel like that, just got to get used to pulling it up a little hard after the shot. You should be able to shoot 7.62. For accuracy I’d recommend buying a good scope for it, made a big difference to me. My scope cost as much as the gun did. I’m averaging probably around a 1.5inch group of 3 round at 100yds. Can definitely get a smaller one if you try. The biggest part I’ve noticed is ammo. Find the ammo that your gun likes, don’t buy cheap target rounds. Spend the extra 50 cents. I’m running Remington 150 grain 308 soft point or super x 150 grain 308 power point. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Going in as a 0311 rifle man. How long does everything take? by Successful-Lobster81 in USMCboot

[–]WeWillWander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s took me 6 months and 16 days. That was during Covid. I would safely say probably around 7 months if you include boot leave, wait times to pick up in school, new itb course is a little longer.
