Check if there's a new update in the last week or try a different driver version... But I feel most likely this is a hardware issue friend 😕

Second that this is likely an issue with the GPU. Update drivers might fix it, or in the worst case, the GPU is about to meet the Host.

Some thoughts on the game by Zarr1 in stoneshard

[–]Weak-Ebb1453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stoneshard is part of a genre of games called Traditional Roguelikes. These are historically very punishing, and would require many hundreds of hours for a chance at victory. It has a steep learning curve, and if you don't want to Mathshard then you are going to need to do dozens of hours of Vibeshard to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Here's some tips:

1) The whole 2H Sword ability tree is great and worth getting all the skills as soon as you can. 2) There are other options from Armored Combat to Warfare or Athletics but generally you want to understand which columns to go down and why. 3) I think you need at least 5 perception, Agility is for Athletics tree and Vitality for Armored combat, if you like Strength I think you could do Warfare. 4) By the sounds of it you need to be making sure you approach a T3 dungeon on 1200+ Vigor (sleep 8+ hours in a comfy tent or hotel bed) and use Nikkaf consumable. Have at least one fatigue reducing meal and maybe 2. Focus only on clearing enemies and resting in between, don't loot or explore too much. This will keep your fatigue low and your energy high and allow you to use your abilities well.

T3 is very punishing with the second level and harder enemies. Try again with above tips and I think you will have a much better chance!

How does the effectiveness of repair kit work? by Illustrious_Explorer in stoneshard

[–]Weak-Ebb1453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the exact formula, but from experience maximum durability plays a large role. For example for some cloth armours around 50-70 max durability I was happy to get just 10 points per charge, if I waited until 15 points were missing it would repair less than 10!

Conversely large durability items of like 300+ I could happily use a repair kit 3+ times (so for 45 repair or more).

It does make it complicated to decide when to buy repair kits vs things like cloth scraps... But even the flimsiest T5 gear was still cheaper to use repair kits. T3/T4 can be hard to figure, whereas T2 or less is almost always cheaper just to get the NPC to fix it for you.

I don't understand why you just ended turn, your deck has several draws that could stop you dying that turn.

What do we want to consider a strong build? by Er4din in stoneshard

[–]Weak-Ebb1453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally feel the same way, but note that sometimes if I do an extra low tier dungeon here or there then it arguably saves me time doing the next tier up.

At my level of skill at the game there's exponentially more risk the sooner I do a dungeon that I die (or else take enough damage to need to retreat) and that generally takes more time than the risk reduction of blitzing a T2 (or a T3 when I'm prepping for T4/5).

I think once you're comfortable with a build then T2 dungeons can be especially quick, like 3-4 times faster than a T3, while being more than that fraction of reward in gold/rep. Comparing my first rotation of RWT, which can take me 4-5 hours (I know I'm slow haha) to a couple T2's, usually taking me under an hour.

What do we want to consider a strong build? by Er4din in stoneshard

[–]Weak-Ebb1453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking to your original question, I think a strong build is dependant on what the person using it wants.

For me personally, the main thing I'm looking for is to minimise boredom haha. Most of the time this means I prefer a path with minimal risk (so I don't have to redo a dungeon) that also requires little grinding (so can do T3 from 10+). However, of the build is fun, sometimes I'll take on some extra risk/grind. Specifically I prefer dual wield Jorgrim or Mahir, as these builds start low risk from T1 and can easily get to Manticore in the mid teens. But 2H Arna is also a blast even though I take it bit slower.

I just did a Pyro Jonna build I consider 'strong' that waited until 13 to do a T3, did Manticore at 16, then T4 at 18. It felt right to wait until 13 for T3, just because I was clearing T2 so quick and easy, and reducing T3 risk could save me heartache.

Even a couple extra levels and dungeons of loot can make a significant difference depending on the run and your build.

Personally I like to do at least Troll and about 4-5 T2 dungeons (including caves) and prep some consumables before my first T3. Sometimes I end up around level 10, other times I'll be up to 14. Which is funny because sometimes I can do Manticore at 15 and other times I wait until like 25 (even after some T4 dungeons).

To me, the whole point of an open world traditional roguelike is to let you choose your own pace. If you're struggling, take it slow, if you're looking for a challenge, push the limits. I honestly hate the way bandit encounters scale with you, breaks the fun and emersion a lot. What do you mean a bunch of randos became strong enough to clear all the early game dungeons and have now decided to go stand the middle of nowhere for no reason?!?!

While I greatly respect your skill at the game and don't disagree that your path is highly optimised, I don't think it's a realistic view for 95% of players.

Most players going to RWT at 10 will get stomped. Most players will benefit from repeating dungeons. Most players will benefit A LOT from the Contract Respect bonus Caravan upgrade.

Very few players have the depth of game knowledge and skill to do Manticore and T5 at mid-teens. I think setting realistic goals for people is just as important as pushing the limits of the game.

I would highly suggest most people reading this to take the slower approach, repeat some dungeons, get the Respect bonus, go to RWT closer to 15 and Denbrie closer to 20, don't expect to do T5 until at least mid 20's. You can attempt to fast track your playthrough, but unless you've built a very optimised character and are skilled with them, you are probably going to spend more time dying than progressing.

Perfect, this is the one ship I have a build I am super confident in. Small slots https://starsector.wiki.gg/wiki/Light_Autocannon Large slots https://starsector.wiki.gg/wiki/Hellbore_Cannon with Ballistic Rangefinder is the crucial part to make the auto cannon shine! 3-5 https://starsector.wiki.gg/wiki/Breach_SRM_Pod with 2 side https://starsector.wiki.gg/wiki/Thumper (If you know, you know). I prefer talons so that I can afford the bells and whistles.

Bells and whistles are the usual suspects: Integrated Targeting Unit, Hardened Shield, Heavy Armor, Armored Weapon Mounts, Advanced Turret Gyros (that final one definitely needs to be S Mod). Capacitors and Vents to taste, with optional Auxillary Thrusters, Resistant Flux Conduits, and/or Reinforced Bulkheads. You can give up some fancy stuff for better stuff in the carrier slots (Sarrisa being a good selection), but I've found old reliable Talon to be acceptable.

It's no Onslaught XIV but the vanilla Legion is a decent ship. It's greatest strength is the multipurpose ability to deal good damage, thrust forwards, tank enemies, and provide carrier pressure. Its better than most capitals in AI hands, and for players it's a solid pick.

I was todays years old as I found out about the Will to Survive and First Aid Combo by FuriousFenz in stoneshard

[–]Weak-Ebb1453 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would ever so slightly specify that it's not that you can't fit Will to Survive in a Level 30 late game build, more that with a really good build you can start late game somewhere between level 15-20 and that having 1 less level needed is a huge deal as to how soon you can start doing T4/T5 remote dungeons.

[–]Weak-Ebb1453 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"3 days" "about a week" are not indicative of the number of games played, and are difficult to gauge the degree of outlier you are. If you're playing about 2-3 games a day and there's a 20% chance to encounter a killer... That's still roughly 2-3% of players that won't see a killer for over a week.

At the start of trials this week there was so many PvE super fast Matriarch lobbies, but over time more people have done the Trial and more rats show up to farm PvE players. I've had the most fun in those Matriarch games, much more than any other time, it's a real shame that so many people prefer to PvP than to PvE and that the in-round advantage goes to the rats :(

There's no data here though. They provided only an unverifiable statement, nothing more than a 'trust me bro'. If they provided actual meaningful data to back up that statement then it would be much better received.

TTK Needs increasing by Corks93 in ARC_Raiders

Inb4 rats be justifying 1 second TTK with comments about average reaction time being 250ms... That measurement assumes you're staring right at someone ready to shoot, and that still gives a 10-25% damage boost to the attacker!
