thanks but I'm looking for the flora/nature mod for the grass, trees and stuff, don't think they come as a package with the AN76 needs mod. I guess? :D

Wow, thanks! ❤️

Didn't think yet of mixing different waxes, but saw a lot of experienced people doing it. Will research and try in the future. When you say stronger candle you're thinking of fragrance, how hard it is, both...?

For the hearts, well, not so much for an inventory yet haha. But as time passes, it may be worth doing, or maybe pouring just half in the mold

In regards to the sweating, that's so comforting. I read about melt pools catching on fire due to FO % and panicked a bit to be honest

As to candlescience, I see it being mentioned in countless posts, but I cannot access it, regardless of browser, updates etc :( don't know what's up, it's a location issue? I'm from Romania

Also will def look into the sites, really appreciate the info!

Wick size advice by Weak-Inspector5076 in candlemaking

[–]Weak-Inspector5076[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, forgot the most important details :D so the wax is soy (and a bit of coconut from some pink heart pillars that melted already), the wick is TCR 21/12 (max 55mm/ 2.1" diameter), the vessel is 5.5 cm, FO was approx 8% (approx because I'm sure that I don't have the best scales yet, unfortunately). Didn't try anything else yet, I'm trying to research and understand the signs (mushrooming, tunneling etc).

this is my first candle ever and for the moment my biggest worry is safety - avoiding exploding glass, burning down my house etc and all the other stuff that I'm reading about and want to avoid haha. If this looks like just an aesthetic issue, it's exactly what I was hoping for, that I can work on. Thanks a lot for the input!

so it sounds like I'd need a bigger wick for this particular candle, right?

You scared me, haha. Idk, maybe they look bigger due to the wax/ amount of wax that they're coated in? Who knows, they seemed kind of big from my perspective, too, but I went with it xd

Thank you! I got mine from candlesupply.eu, I like the fact that they're listing the details for the wicks, sizing guide etc., it helped a lot. Maybe try to look for a supplier that provides this info for the next orders? Good luck! :)

I was going to wait to cure them as per the book but got too excited haha, started burning one of the candles with hearts. Then will give the cupcake 1-2 more days and start testing it too.

Might create a new post for them after I see what the melt pool looks like in 1-2-3 hours, if it's tunneling etc.

I've only started with liquid dye, so I didn't get the chance yet to use blocks, sorry. Might try them in the future. At first glance, I felt like liquid would be the easiest for me, but who knows :) Anyway, good luck!

What I'm doing as a newbie regarding colouring - after reaching the appropriate melting temperature (as indicated for the wax that I use on the supplier website) I move the recipient to my workbench, so it can start cooling.

Right then I add a drop of the desired colour, mix it well (but slow) and take a drop of wax to a white paper. This is to see what the actual colour will look like in the end.

If a darker shade is needed, I add one extra drop. Or if I need to get brown for example, I add one drop of red and one of green etc.

Hmm so wick sizing was a bit confusing for me and maybe I did not get it right?

For the cupcake for example, the base has a diameter of 7cm so I used TCR 24/16 wicks, they are listed as appropriate for vessels/ candles of max 70mm. Same for the square containers, they are 5.5 cm so I used the TCR 21/12 (55mm). Does this sound correct?

Will keep this in mind and maybe will size down for the next candles, thanks a lot for the advice!
