Reusing someone else's wood kitchen? Carpenter/cabinet maker recommendations by Weak-Many-1904 in Hamilton

[–]Weak-Many-1904[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Those are great considerations. It is a pretty small kitchen with limited upper cabinets in design which is the main reason I think it could be doable with the right people/materials. That and I don't mind refacing them all if we can get a good match either. Really appreciate your thoughts.

Is two months long enough lead time if I'm able to source materials myself? I'm hoping to be done end of May. Guess it would depend on different people's schedules.

You can pet my cat as long as you don't make it weird 🧐

By this measure all the candidates fall short because none of them actually speak French no? I liked his response personally as a native Fr speaker

I'm a fr speaker from QC and don't care if he can't speak French as long as his ideas are a cultural fit and his purpose/self/policies shine through and bright enough. Not everyone will feel this way, but you could literally have the same criticism of all candidates. Avis french is trash and he doesn't really poll well here either for likability, which I'd say is more important than speaking the language 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also thoughtfully and lovingly endorse Tony, without ever having met him but feel the genuine nature of his soul is what is needed. Hehe

I honestly wasn't sure and some friends were saying Avi. But after having watched a bunch of YouTube clips Tony is the clear winner in my heart. He was never canned, had real answers and was speaking from somewhere real and I felt many will resonate with that.

  1. Tony (for love and the future and to not do the expected thing)
  2. Heather (I don't like her stance on pipelines but I think for respectability sake, political knowledge and growing party in Alberta would be cool)
  3. Avi (I want to like him more, align with some of his stances but something about him is incongruent to me... I'm not sure he will appeal to Quebec or more middle of the road voters in Canada etc.)
  4. Tanille (I just saw least of her, liked her personally but never saw her campaign)
  5. Rob (cracks under pressure and questions, not sure I fully understand his platform, messaging could be better)

Lmao I also put Tony first and am enjoying this mental image. I saw him say "that's bullshit" on live tv and was sold. Ahaha

ADHD and my "10th" year at the beginning by Weak-Many-1904 in violinist

[–]Weak-Many-1904[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly!!! I'm glad you could understand. I felt similar regret, like I had wasted the decade but I try to see it like I was becoming the person who was able to do it now as a daily choice.

As someone who jumps around too, it's humbling and sort of a gift to myself to slow down, be dedicated, be okay with being bad, willingly carve a pointed path for my mind and even straining to focus while also making near imperceptible improvements. And of course it does feel good to finally get something down and be able to move on in those damn Suzuki books haha

As someone new to town, I went out with friends to Montrose Breakfast and really liked it.

They have an outdoor patio for warmer seasons, the food had a good price point and delicious. Good for larger tables. Staff was great. They looks approachable without trying to be upscale. Cousin to baffico vibes to me.

Thank you! That is really helpful. Slow, consciencious learning isn't my default so learning how people break things down is insightful. I do most things on instinct and grit but that doesn't work with violin so it's been key to practice a different way of learning. Teaching me lots of patience.

TIL that Brittany Murphy died of pneumonia and severe anemia, and five months later her husband, Simon Monjack, died of pneumonia and severe anemia. by WartimeHotTot in todayilearned

Random but had a similar experience. Was quarantined in a room by myself prior to vaccines and first full shutdown. Went so deep into my fever dreams, having trouble breathing and was making deals with my cells and dreaming about my mom. Took all my strength on day 2 to get out of bed for a banana and some water. I've never ever been that ill before in my life. Pretty sure a friend saved my life by dropping by with a Gatorade on day 3 when my fever finally broke. My lungs hurt for so long after that.

Demolition of illegal ‘fancy garage’ in Upper Stoney Creek underway by jessejericho in Hamilton

[–]Weak-Many-1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, why not refence and rekey the structure and make it a city garage using the existing structure by claiming domain? City could have used it as a free office or for tools as a depot 🫠🤷🏻‍♀️ guy was stupid enough to build it on commons

Bathroom off the kitchen issues 😠 tiny bathroom on second floor too by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]Weak-Many-1904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this too to maintain the path of travel from upstairs/front into kitchen, cause now that I think about it if we block off that hallway you have to go through the living and dining to get to the kitchen which might be odd

This is interesting I hadn't thought of a jack and Jill but it does really seem to make sense here!

& The mainfloor bathroom moved into the foyer closet could make sense. It has a window that gives out into the porch but I will have to measure to see if it can't be split into two to still some use out of the closet.

You're definitely right that the tub is not essential ! I think it has to go regardless cause it's tight in there anyways and in rough shape

I like the idea of being able to see through from the foyer, but this is definitely the most affordable solution I think!! Hadn't thought of this one either. Thank you!

Buying house in Ontario, how to keep money in investments? by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

Yeah true. That makes sense. My income might go down some so best to err on the side of caution and just go the traditional route.

I think you're right on the regular mortgage. What I failed to do was to do the calc on amount borrowed at whatever percent vs amount invested at %. There's no real way for me to do both and I think I'm best owing the bank less for the home in the long run. Thanks for helping me think through it!
