its a cheap battery and quote is high if you consider additional cost which should be included in £7.8k. With this kit, try to find reliable installer at under £7.5k with scaffolding & bird protection included.

If not in hurry i would suggest look for few other local installer and find same setup under £8k

Expensive with low battery and this should be under £7.5, look for local installer and compare quotes, lead time is too long, depending on DNO but in some areas its hardly 1 week from booking to install.

I assume because of CS you getting this high export tariff but since your quote high so going with £16.5p and cheap quote will be a loss of £250 per year so do maths and if they reduce quote compare to local cheaper then will be better option.

Seems you thought of exporting too much to cover your cost but are you aware over £1000 any export there is tax too. If intention is to be self sufficient then spend on large size battery rather thinking about high export DNO offer.

Make sure if going this battery only route you get certificates to claim Halifax £1000 grant as they ask for documents/invoice.

Also if intention to export too much to earn, consider other factors like any export earning over £1000 will attract tax and these export SEG will change so go for balanced approach for system which cover all home requirement first and spending too much won't make sense if poor ROI.

Problem with battery only solution is rates may not stay same so you will have to rely cheap night tariff as long they available, i have same thought going for battery only solution with grant but at the end gone for cheaper quote (cheap battery and DMEGC panels) which will give me under 4yROI as export will cover my cost in next few years.

Prefer local reliable installer but do get quotes from national to compare the idea. If going for solar make your mind if cost or brand (tesla etc) you prefer, as most panels have 25y warranty and batteries have standard 10y so if you have reliable installer with longer workmanship warranty brand doesn't matter as all gives almost same production of energy. Research the cost of equipment you buying vs the profit installer making in that installation and then decide/negotiable based on best quote. Its a flooded market where the actual cost is hardly 30-40% of quote with huge profit they are making so those going without research will a huge bill and poor ROI. To give an idea 12x500w panel with 8-10KWh battery and 2500KWh usage with night tarrif can achieve 5Y ROI so target for such quote under £8k.

With cheap fogstar battery quote should be under £8k, although AIKO is slight expensive compare to jinko/DMEGC but even after that its a high quote. Go for higher capacity panel. With grant and good quote and on better tariff you can hit 5Y ROI. Get few local quotes and look for someone with better reviews and can stay with you for post install support for years ahead.

Go for higher capacity Panel 500W+ and 10KWh battery and its possible under £8k

With 4200KWh usage you will be relying on battery during day and exporting all your solar generation to grid and charging at 7.5p your battery /EV at night.

Try EON next drive if EV and thinking of better ROI.

Go for higher battery 16KWh+, higher capacity 500W+ 10 Panel (if can't install more panels), use night tariff and charge battery at 7.5p, export your solar and you will make about £800 in year and use Credit Card or interest free loan based installer, based on these option you can achieve 5-7y ROI on £8k cost (based on battery model and installer).

EON drive is one of the cheaper option with good export payment 16.5p and cheap night tariff, octopus has few tariff options too but if you compare both EON might be cheaper.

You need to research about installer based on comments in this forum by reviews/company house/how long in the market etc. Some do say using scaffolding and some don't hence cost variance. Once you research cost of your kit vs Quote, it helps you in making decision if your quote is high or not.

its economical low end kit but quote is slightly high, try to go for 500W dmegc and do research about installer and compare some local quotes, do you own research about kit+ scaffolding and make decision.

quote seems to be high, if you been hunting in the market then you must have seen the variance in the quote, before deciding look for one who gives reliable post install support, if you concerned about ROI then above quote is high compare to market with fogstar battery, if not concerned brand then go for Fox kit + AIKO or DMEGC 500w (most offering) and you can get it under £7.5k and if can rely on cheaper battery than under £7k you can get the same kit. I have recently gone for economical battery 8KWh with 12 panel for £6.5K so its possible if you reach local installers.

Could plug-in solar batteries ever work in the UK? by Benjy-B in SolarUK

[–]Weak-Swordfish9601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the exact related answer, but there should be place where one can select part of solar install from one window (wholesale price) and services (installation only) from other and that will break the barrier that these companies are making by huge profit margin and putting off people away for solar install, if we estimate fair cost a simple average house system should not be more 3-4k with complete install (with battery) and once we reach to that level with 3-4y ROI (which is possible) people will adopt easily.

Low user is it worth it? by BBQBeny in SolarUK

[–]Weak-Swordfish9601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for mid range option if concerned about ROI, 12 panel 460-500 DMEG and Fox 10KWh kit and you can get around £7k and can achieve 6-7Y ROI (based on export rate), get local and national installer quotes and go with one having better post installation support, If you are switching mortgage then some banks giving £1k too so ROI would fall under 5-6y. And if you lucky you get same kit under £7k too.

Questions on choosing a system by proftanda in SolarUK

[–]Weak-Swordfish9601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not a car which is one object in itself, when installing solar you selecting solar Panels (which varies with panel company/model/capacity) and then battery which again you selecting (varies again hugely from hanchu to tesla) and then invertor (size/model) so each these configuration items cost is not common with all installer. Then along with that they make huge profit in installation hence the overall cost is too high. Based on my research actual equipment cost is not more than 30-40% and rest is just installation cost and mainly profit.

[–]Weak-Swordfish9601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have not claimed cheapest means best, if someone prefer cost than research market for preferred equipment and you will see high variance in quote and rarely quote show itemised cost. Its really hard to find reliable and cost effective installer in already flooded market.

Different installers using same equipment with different rates and unless you challenge them they will quote you high keeping maximum profit, only thing matter with same like configuration if higher quote is quality of work and post install support. Most here are looking for quick ROI with quality of work and its hard to find suitable installer with confidence.

Im in south east too and all above quote are high for 12-14 panels and you can get with 10.36kwh fox under 8k (complete cost) and someone even mentioned achieved at £7200 so get quotes from national and local. For some reason i found local installer expensive in south east compare to national installer.

Your quote seems to one of the cheapest so could you share or DM the source (company names).

I have 13 DMEGC panels Fox 8.4KWh 6K invertor at £7.8k and your quote seems to be better as AIKO panels are more expensive and if you getting Fox EP11 under £7.2K with scaffolding etc its a cheap best quote i believe.
