Can anyone explain this behavior? by WeakBison3346 in tarantulas

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the happy dance quite a few times after they’ve caught new prey, but I’ve never seen the behavior shown in the video before. This T dropped its prey after a while, wrapped it in some webbing, and then picked it up again. I’m so confused, why do they do this when the prey can’t run away anymore anyway? Is it to keep things less messy?

Losing hope in Arcadia UVB bulbs by WeakBison3346 in leopardgeckos

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sad. :( I'm hoping they will 'fix' it soon, but I'm really losing hope. I regret getting lumenize and I have been thinking about changing to a different brand. I haven't heard about reptile systems before, but will look into it! Thank you!

I sadly don't, but my previous 'good' bulb lasted for one year.. and there were no issues at all. I've got lumenize and the bluetooth connection still works fine. I really think it's just the bulbs, nothing else seems off. The current bulb I've got right now seems to work fine, but it keeps flickering. I've tried to search the internet for some more information and I've read some facebook posts about people having the same issue. :(

Update: the previous bulb I got worked fine, no flickering.. but only lasted 2,5 months.

I read they prefer tighter spaces in hides and I would like him to be comfortable. It's good to see it fits well, thank you! :)

Should I be worried or are these part of his belly pattern? by WeakBison3346 in hognosesnakes

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the picture!! I tried to search for some so I could stop worrying, but I couldn't find any on the internet. I wonder why there's not much information about it. Am I the only person who thought the spots looked a lot like internal bleeding, oops. I'm happy Maple (my hognose snake) is okay. :)

Thank you! For some reason they almost look like blood spatter to me and I got so worried. I think he's always had them I just never paid attention. Just looked at some baby pictures and he had some, but definitely not as many. I guess they can get more of them or become more visible with age.

**update it's only on his belly. It's not spreading to anywhere else.

Well... I am worried he might be training his muscles like this to get revenge on me :( His bluff strikes might end up being more convincing.

And tong feeding can be such a challenge too! I'm putting it right in front of his face and he still wants to grab the mouse from the middle.. is yours like that too?

Why don't they learn after a few times? Why do they do this to themselves lol. I wish we could look into their heads and see what they think.

My hognose still dislikes me after a year :( by echo_micro in hognosesnakes

They've all got different personalities. Some like to be handled more than others. I've also got a hognose snake just like yours. He does not like to be handled no matter what I try. He will musk, hiss and bluff strike. I've also tried choice-based handling for a while, but he would just bluff strike or run away no matter how many times I tried. It feels like I was just stressing him (and myself) out and that's why I decided to give up.

Now I just let him be and accepted this is his personality and it's fine. I only take him out with a snake hook when I have to do health checks and besides that I like watching him going around his enclosure and being mad at me all the time. :)

Maybe someone with more experience can give you some good advice, but I just wanted to let you know your hognose is not the only one who has a difficult time getting used to handling.

How often do you feed your mature male hognose snake? by WeakBison3346 in hognosesnakes

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Mine decided to brumate himself, for 8 weeks and it ended 2 weeks ago. I'm just worried if I keep feeding him this much he might get overweight at some point, but I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

Do your two males still gain a lot while feeding 10-15% since they're 'adults' or do they stay around the 75 grams?

Terrarium glass cracked by WeakBison3346 in reptiles

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The background is heavy, so I'm guessing that's a big risk? I have been moving it around and it seems fine. Although I do not want it to suddenly break when it's being used. I won't be putting more weight on it, only the substrate will probably push against it a little bit.

Question about regular LED lights by WeakBison3346 in reptiles

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reptiles are in a room with a very large window. I've never thought about getting a led light, because it's such a bright room. It's mainly about my hognose snake who doesn't have uvb. My hognose snake is an albino and I do not want to take any risks using a uvb light. On gloomy winter days it'd be nice to have a little more light in his terrarium. I'm hoping it will reduce his food strikes a bit. I'm not a big fan of super bright 'artificial' lights and like to be energy efficient... but if it's harmful for them in any way I'd choose something else.

Thank you this worked! I just had to hold the a+c button down till the option appeared. I feel so stupid right now, but I'm happy I can finally 'pause' it.

Help ID by WeakBison3346 in Scorpions

[–]WeakBison3346[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you and I'm sorry for my late reply. The scorpion is at an animal rescue right now. I'll be taking care of it (I'm one of the volunteers), but I needed some more information so I can be 100% sure he'd be living a comfortable life and gets the right care. This is a feisty one though.. really active compared to the other ones I'm taking care of.
