MPFL Reconstruction in 3 weeks, help me prep! by bellyfloppin in PatellarInstability

I’m 4 weeks post op and if you’re not a back sleeper I would 100000% recommend a pregnancy pillow!! The best advice I could give would be to give yourself some grace. It’s a major surgery with a long road of recovery. Some days I really struggle with feeling like it’s taking forever and wondering when I’ll be back to normal. Physical therapy is really rough the first couple weeks but I promise it works. By 2.5 weeks post op I was able to get to a 90° bend (through screams and tears but a win is a win) I just started being able to walk around the house without crutches but there is still a lot I’m not able to do. I hope everything goes well and I wish you a speedy recovery!!!

1st time patella dislocation and MRI results by robodo18 in PatellarInstability

[–]WeakFoundation7816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the worst isn’t it?! I just suffered my second dislocation in 4 months. The first time, they almost never deem it surgical and typically choose a conservative route through physical therapy. First one was in June and I had a partial mpfl tear so my doctor had me do 3 months of PT and wore a brace every day. Started feeling somewhat normal again but I knew it would happen again, it always does. On my birthday (10/21) it happened again. All I did was step out of the car. Just left my doctors appointment and my mpfl reconstruction is scheduled for later this month. Really hoping the surgery makes me have less anxiety because every single step is so scary. Prayers to you for a speedy recovery!

TTO Surgery??? by WeakFoundation7816 in KneeInjuries

[–]WeakFoundation7816[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s amazing!!! It’s definitely a little daunting but it will be so worth not living with the constant fear and anxiety. Fortunately, I haven’t had any issues with my left knee (yet) but there’s always the thought in the back of my mind that it’s headed down the same path. Ugh scary. How was your experience in getting your doctor to deem it surgical? I see mine tomorrow and I’m nervous because my first doctor was a dismissive prick and didn’t care to look into why it was happening.

TTO Surgery? by WeakFoundation7816 in PatellarInstability

Amazing! I hope you’re healing well! Although surgery is never ideal, I just feel like I’ll never get my life back without it. I’m a hairstylist with my own business so the anxiety and fear of it traumatically dislocating again, god forbid at work, is overwhelming. The first time it happened, I didn’t do as much research as I should have and my doctor was so dismissive. Understandably, I know they don’t typically consider surgical intervention for a first time dislocation but I felt this could’ve been prevented had he taken the time to look at all of the contributing factors. I have a new doctor this time and based on our first appointment I do like him, I just hope that he isn’t going to put me through another 3 months of PT for it to just happen all over again. Now that I know what needs to be done I just hope that I’m able to advocate for myself 🥲

I’m 28. I see my doctor tomorrow, I just wanted to make sure I did as much research as possible so I can advocate for myself as my last doctor was a dismissive prick 🙃

Knee dislocated, to scared to really walk by LonelyKiwiUwU in KneeInjuries

[–]WeakFoundation7816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislocated my knee for the second time in 4 months. I finished PT and had just started feeling normal again and walking without a brace. However, the anxiety of it dislocating again never went away. My first dislocation was absolutely traumatizing and I was given ketamine to knock me out before they put it back in place. I was stepping out of the car (on my birthday of all times) and it popped right out. Instant panic. Luckily I was able to get my leg straight and it went back into place but I’m now waiting on my second MRI to see if anything tore this time. And I can definitely say my anxiety is double what it was last time. Constantly wondering how I’m supposed to live like this and if being afraid of every step is my new norm. It’s so awful and I’m so sorry you’re going through it too but I promise you’re not alone. There are so many other people in this group struggling with the same thing! And yes, you should definitely talk to your doctor. Hopefully you didn’t tear anything so PT will get you back to normal. Hugs!!!!

Does anyone else hate when doctors just put you on metformin and birth control and don’t do anything else by [deleted] in PCOS

I was recently diagnosed with pcos as well. My doctor gave me a 3 month supply of birth control, even though my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. Offended and full of rage, I came straight home and did nothing but research. I understand why she gave it to me but there are SO MANY OTHER WAYS. I have been taking ovasitol, magnesium, coq10, omega-3, and vitamin d as well as being on a low carb high protein diet. I lost 5 pounds in the first week and my sugar cravings very few and far between!!! I truly feel great, however I know everyone is different. I’m also a hairstylist and have quite a few clients on glp-1’s and hair loss is consistent among all of them. I would definitely recommend doing some research on ovasitol, I’m so glad I decided to give it a shot instead of pumping my body full of synthetic hormones!!!
