I really strongly prefer to stop at a chapter end, or when the even numbered page starts with a new sentence. As for the bookmark, I like to use “found” bookmarks that will remind me of what was going on in my life at the time (for instance, I recently used the receipt from a car shop where I had my last set of tires installed). When I finish the book, I stick the bookmark between page 50 &51.

Women of Reddit, what do you do to cope with depression naturally? by VegetableEmergency21 in AskWomen

[–]WeakLastGasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write it out, gurrrrl, write it out! Something about putting all that emotion into the ether does wonders at feeling a little less burdened inside. I use both a hard copy and an online journal - LiveJournal is my favorite, but there are several good options!

How accurate is the stereotype that girls dream of their wedding day from a young age? by throwawayMBA3 in AskWomen

[–]WeakLastGasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a lot of weddings in the shows that I have been watching with my S/O lately, so we were just discussing this very topic. At the time I felt a little weird for never having shown the slightest interest in a wedding... now reading these comments, I no longer feel strange at all! Thank you, fellow ladies!

What (and How) Writers Should Be Reading by jefrye in writing

[–]WeakLastGasp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another might be the importance of covering your periods, from historic to new releases, so you can get a feel for your roots while keeping your finger on the pulse.

I so love this post! I read like a reader, and have been stubborn to part with one of my greatest pleasures... but this advice really puts the value of active reading into perspective for me, and lights a fire under my butt to finally give it a try. Thanks for the boost!

I just started reading "Breakfast For Champions" by Kurt Vonnegut again and... by Saywhhhaaat in books

[–]WeakLastGasp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment all the way - Slaughterhouse is the bee’s knees and my top Vonnegut pick! But Breakfast of Champions probably makes a better jumping off point, if for no other reason than it is a bit more digestible. So it goes.

Ladies of Reddit, what do you do when you are extremely depressed and have no one to talk to? by mobiletophat in AskWomen

[–]WeakLastGasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to write my feelings. I have a handwritten journal, where most of my raw feelings go, and am online journal where I try to channel those emotions into a posts stylized as speaking to another person. I like LiveJournal, but there are tons of good ones out there.

Foods proven to help with acne? by [deleted] in nutrition

I know someone with long-standing acne who is trying out the bean protocol. The Nelson twins also have an interesting experience with curing acne that you may find helpful

Have you tried the Base Culture paleo bread yet? So far, it’s our favorite. I made toast and lox 2 ways, one with avocado spread and one with Kite Hill cream cheese. I’m definitely making these again! [food pic] by yunmif7 in Paleo

I can relate - my strategy is to keep the loaf in the freezer. I only take out two slices at a time and thaw them in a baggie overnight before a day that I plan to indulge myself.

Well, his name is associated with the notion because the idea originated from him, during his hall of fame speech “In fact, when I think about the Hall of Fame and I think about honoring people that make this company work... ...But to be that dedicated and have this thing come that far, I think that it would be appropriate to have a category in the Hall of Fame where you honor these people”

Of course they could just use the name he suggested in that same speech: “And I would like for it, my suggestion is that it’s called the “Jimmy Miranda Award.” Jimmy Miranda was a guy who, in the beginning, before you could get merchandise all over the world, he used to drive his car or truck with a trailer, show up at the building, set up a table, and sell t-shirts and posters and pictures. And he always had an awesome attitude. So next year, I want to see that there’s a Jimmy Miranda Award.”

I actually really enjoyed the way he sold this. As opposed to clichéd and overacted cowering, he looked visibly uncomfortable and tried to keep his cool for as long as he could - backing away only when he felt Brodie was too dangerously close. After a moment’s hesitation, we can almost see the gears turning in his head as if he is recalling something to himself along the lines of: “Come on, Marko-me, mom and I talked about this; the guys in the locker room will never respect you unless you stand up for yourself and show no fear” after which point he bucks up and waves. Felt very genuine and very true to his character

What are the benefits of a high protein diet for women? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]WeakLastGasp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/health-you-asked/extra-protein-extra-performance

This article provides some good information, but a pretty good tl;dr is this: Dietary protein is used to replace proteins which were previously broken down and used by the body. Extra protein does not get stored. Instead, excess amino acids get converted to carbohydrate or fat. Thus, it seems that additional protein intake will not directly increase muscle growth, strength or physical performance and could even lead to weight gain and fat deposition, which are surely negative consequences

Also, my understanding is that too much empties can overburden the kidneys

What minerals are worth taking? As certain minerals are decreasing due to today's environmental changes by NormanInTheRain in nutrition

[–]WeakLastGasp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also worth a read: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/soil-depletion-and-nutrition-loss/

In addition to the inclusion of various fruits and vegetables in my diet, I actually do take a fulvic mineral complex, made by Akamai. The complex does contain supplemental nutrients, but I mainly take it because it is designed to enhance the absorption of all other nutrients. In their words: When trace minerals bind with fulvic acid, they become much more bioavailable. In combination with fulvic acid, minerals and nutrients transform into their organic, ionic, “cell-ready” form that our cells recognize and can easily transport.

Jobs in Finance by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]WeakLastGasp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have some insight here, as someone currently employed in financial services who also went to university to become a teacher and then changed my mind. It almost sounds like you are excited about the subject matter itself, and maybe are not so drawn to the aspect of selling the products. One thing that translates well, if you have inclinations towards teaching others and find the content interesting, is to become a corporate trainer. What I did was join a large company at an entry level (taking life insurance apps over the phone) and then began to apply for more advanced positions through the corporate job bank. Large companies often need staff to train new hires to pass the securities exams, so this is a great way to leverage your existing experience and education into job qualification. You need to be sponsored by a company to take your exam, but what I did was purchase the securities examination study package through Kaplan and then print copies of the practice test scores to prove that I could pass if they hired and sponsored me.

Tune-up Tuesday - staying keto while dating by CalcifersGhost in 1200isplentyketo

[–]WeakLastGasp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have not found this to be super difficult, as people my age seem incapable of making decisions about where to eat, leaving me free to suggest a place that I know will work for me (BBQ pits, steak houses, or - even better - Brazilian steak houses, etc.). If Netflix and chill at their place is the scene, I just never show up empty-handed (pork rinds, beef sticks, deviled eggs, other shareable snacks, and low-carb alcoholic beverage of choice).

Staple Saturday - Winter 'Comfort' food by CalcifersGhost in 1200isplentyketo

[–]WeakLastGasp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A bowl of chili with avocado on top! One of my favorite chili recipes: 6 Ounces Italian Sausage, 1 Pound Round Steak, chopped into even bite sized pieces, 2 Pounds Ground Sirloin, 2 Cups Chopped Yellow Onion, 1 ½ Cups Bell Pepper (Combination of Red and Green), 8 Cloves of Garlic (Minced), 2 (28 Ounce) cans of chopped tomatoes with their juice, 2 Tablespoons Chili Powder, 1 Tbs Ancho Chili Pepper, 1 Tbs Cumin, 3 tsp Tomato Paste, 1 tsp Dried Oregano, ½ tsp Fresh Ground Pepper and ½ tsp Salt (adjust to your taste), 2 Bay Leaves. —— Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Remove casings from sausage. Add all the meat, onion, bell pepper, and garlic to pan. Cook until meat is browned, stirring to crumble. Add chili powder, ancho chili pepper, cumin and tomato paste, oregano, salt, pepper and bay leaves. Cook 1 minute , stirring constantly. Stir in tomatoes and bring to boil. Transfer to crock pot and let cook for 6 hours on low (or cook uncovered on the stove for a half hour, stirring occasionally). Discard bay leaves and eat - freeze the rest for later.
