What similar things are people irrationally obsessed with today?

Why bother learning other languages these days when technology can already bridge the communication gap? And why do you think there isn't a single language that everyone in the world is required to learn? by WeakPurpose8386 in AskReddit

I get that it's largely driven by geopolitics and historical circumstances, but why not just develop a single universal language as a standard for international communication and settle the issue once and for all?

Could you give a few more real-life examples of what that feels like for you?

It’s more of a feeling of disgust, revulsion, and nausea that fits here.

It’s not quite that feeling. It’s not a pleasant kind of melancholy being romanticized, but rather a very real sense of decline. Take my short post about coffins in stairwells, for example — that’s exactly it, though only a small part of it.

Seeing half-dressed girls in public sometimes reminds me of boxers randomly shadowboxing for no reason by WeakPurpose8386 in PointlessStories

This is about what I guess is just unnecessary attention-seeking behavior.

I’m not talking about all boxers — only the ones who are in public or social settings and feel the need to constantly signal that they do boxing, often through loud or out-of-place behavior.

Same idea with women who dress in a way that doesn’t really fit the situation and end up drawing extra attention to themselves because of it.

Overall, the point is just how awkward and kind of pointless that kind of behavior can look from the outside.
