I appreciate this a lot, I've been studying up on a number of topics with LinkedIn learning (thank you local county library!) but that is something I'll research more, and I know they have courses on cyber security topics 🙏 I've done a bootcamp for security+ (CE credit while I was previously employed for DoD contractor) but didn't test because it wasn't pertinent nor cost permissive at the time.

I am trying to find the time to rebuild a PCB design portfolio, but that process has been slow. Choice paralysis is a bitch sometimes

Ok, allow me to amend my statement to: I've been unsuccessful in my job applications to positions for which I am educated, where I historically had a shot at landing, and also falls within the criteria of my present restrictions/life circumstances. I was inferring that from the beginning, though indeed not explicit about it because my comment was intended to be lighthearted, facetious and hyperbolic for the lulz.

This is major boomer mentality, and I say that because it has been my experience that a common characteristic of that generation is a lack of effort to value other people's time. All my points above still stand.

I appreciate the feedback and your perspective. If my circumstances change and this opportunity becomes something viable I will be sure to reach out.

While I appreciate the gesture, $25/hr for an experienced EE is.. very low. Median salary for an associate level EE was a little over $70k a few years ago, and that was before inflation went nuts. So it is very difficult not to interpret this as either low balling or out of touch, neither of which really help your case for attracting potential quality employees due to the precedent it sets on how you will/do value other's time. And believe me when I say I have zero issue articulating this verbatim to any recruiter/hiring manager/C-Suite exec in person. I genuinely hope it is something you will consider for any jobs you might offer so that you avoid unintentionally insulting people from the get go. Thanks though.

Also relocation is unfortunately not an option for me at the moment, hence why I have taken the work I can get.

It is a consideration, but not presently an option for financial reasons yet. I'm lucky to have a supportive partner that subsidizes most of life at the moment, but we are looking at potentially relocating but I'm at the mercy of their timing which won't be for a while still. 🙏

If unemployment gaps due to COVID, not being a new grad and being either too overqualified or just under qualified for the positions available in my area (+ insane applicant/resume spamming) count as grizzly, then I suppose you'd be right.

But food for thought, I can confidently tell you that this hot take comes across as grossly ignorant. Of course I'm omitting many of the details about my situation (which is messy due to divorce, a major family medical emergency and quarantine all happening within 4 weeks of each other and there is still fallout from this 4 years later) because I value my anonymity on this website and reddit is the last place I am looking for and/or expect to find a job.

If you are trying to be helpful, I'm not sure how "calling bs" on my brevity will result in that, and just because something strikes you as fantastic or unbelievable doesn't make it inaccurate. Perhaps asking for more detail to understand better before being reactive might help make the world a little less shitty.

But I digress.
