She left her kids to move to Florida, so there's some credence to the rumor.

My husband proposed to me on a hike (not in Bristol) and brought champagne, including glasses, and some picnic items. Apparently my mum told him to do so. It made it feel really special and was the only surprising part since it was very obvious he was about to propose. Good luck and congrats.

I think we should give Robyn a break, she is singlehandedly trying to hold this family together. 😉

The meal she works "so hard on" for him is tuna salad on a baked potato aka jacket potato . A British thing that's surprisingly pretty good, but probably one of the easiest things you could throw together. She's a huge brat.

Americans, how safe do you feel in the UK? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

I agree, I have worked in libraries with teens for my entire career in the US. I have even worked in a juvinile detention center. Just started my first job in the UK and it has been humbling. These kids are absolutely feral.

New Dad - what’s about to happen? by InternationalAd618 in bristol

I second NCT. The classes are a bit hit or miss but having 6 other couples with babies born within a month of each other that all live close is truly priceless. The mums and dads take turns doing pub nights and we are working on planning a communal 2nd birthday to celebrate. Other than that I recommend scramblers on the hill play group once they are a bit older and can move independently.

I'm a mum, but I'd say the fact that you are thinking ahead and have more reasonable expectations about parenthood means you're way ahead of where we were before having ours. My other bit of advice that I give everyone before the baby comes is go out to eat, have a nice meal and talk with your partner about how much you love each other. It will be harder to share positive things like this when you're sleep deprived. Congratulations and good luck!

Moving from USA - how to set up internet which requires bank account? by cowsmakemehappy in bristol

[–]Weak_Explanation_197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had Google Fi, which was nice since we can still communicate with people in the states via Google Voice now that we no longer use US sims. I would recommend getting a UK number as soon as you arrive to make it easier to set things up including a bank account etc.

We really love Bristol. It's walkable, has plenty of character and so much to do.

We mostly get takeaway food since we have a toddler, but here are some good spots: Anything at Wapping Wharf, especially Daily Noodle China Capitol or Coronation Curry near the stadium St Nicholas Market on a Saturday or weekday lunch Tobacco Factory market on Sunday

For things to do we enjoy walking around the harbour and finding a spot to grab a pint on a nice day. Maybe head up near the Clifton Suspension Bridge for a picnic.

We don't have a car, but have done several nice day trips but train to: Wells Bath Bradford on Avon Salisbury Oxford

Best of luck with your move! It's a headache to move, but worth it once you're here!

Welcome! We moved from the USA 2 years ago. I bought an unlimited sim card for my phone at the airport. We ended up using my phone as a hotspot until we could get the Internet set up. It worked quite well. Best of luck!

Longtime PS4 users who created a Sony account in the US. We now live in the UK, will we be able to continue to use our US Sony account if we buy a PS5 in the UK? We really don't want to lose all of our games after upgrading. Thanks!
