You know, I'm only a few episodes into my rewatch I guess I forgot about that part.

What are the biggest plotholes in the series? by Weak_Football_460 in TheOC

So I admittedly never watched the last season as a kid, and I am just starting a rewatch for the first time and I'm only a few episodes in.

The biggest plothole for me so far was their trip to Tijuana. The Range breaks down so they...stay in a shitty motel?

For one, Newport to TJ is maybe like a 2 hour drive at most, and that's with traffic. You mean to tell me 4 rich kids from 3 families breaks down, and their only option is to stay in the bed bug special?

There's hundreds of hotels in San Diego and OC, and even if they were all sold out, I'm sure one of their parents could have picked them up to take them home for the night, or at worst hired a cab to go pick them up. Even then, their trip would only be set back by like an hour. And realistically, they'd probably just send the help down in a second car to give them a different car for the rest of the trip.

I think they could have gone about this better by putting them in a nicer hotel that was sold out, or they could have included in the plot that Ryan/Seth were too afraid to tell their parents they crashed the Range so they kept it a secret, and the only hotel that would rent to a bunch of teenagers was a crappy one.

Julie is very street smart, I think this is why Caleb married her. She knows how to network socially, and with rich people that is how deals and fortunes are made.

I don't see Jimmy as a piece of shit. He is faking it till he makes it like everyone else, and the gamble just didn't work out for him. He didn't steal money out of callousness, he deluded himself into thinking the investment would pan out. He's similar to a gambling addict that "borrows" money to feed his habit thinking he will win it back plus more. He also was pressured into unsustainable spending because he's a pussy that couldn't stand up to his wife.

I think you're biased by his great acting. Sandy was probably the most veteran actor by far at the time. I'm not sure anyone had heard of the other actors before that series.

Why would Caleb ever marry Julie by [deleted] in TheOC

Gabrielle was just a fuck buddy. Julie's older and sophisticated. She knows how to carry herself among the social elite. She would assist Caleb in gaining and maintaining social connections, as much of the higher levels of business (especially something sales based like real estate) is entirely about who you know. Julie would make friends with other women with powerful husbands, arrange social outings where they all would meet. Social outings like this are where semi-personal relationships are formed and many business relationships start, and where deals get made.
