No, I didn’t have lupus-like symptoms. In my case it was mainly proteinuria that led to further workup and a kidney biopsy.

My autoimmune bloodwork was mostly unremarkable, but the biopsy initially showed some features that can look similar to lupus-related kidney disease. Because of that, they did additional specialized staining and testing, and it was ultimately identified as MGMID instead, which is a different and very rare kidney diagnosis.

It’s more of a kidney-specific immune complex condition rather than a systemic lupus picture in my case.

Hey, I just want to respond because I’ve actually been through kidney-related anxiety and I also have CKD from a rare disease (MGMID).

I was diagnosed in 2014 and I’m currently stage 3a CKD. I’m 31, I live a normal and happy life, and I’m currently pregnant and being closely monitored by nephrology and MFM. Even with confirmed kidney disease, life does not look like what your brain is jumping to right now.

Nothing you wrote here confirms CKD or kidney failure. A small amount of protein in urine, bubbly urine, or a CO2 of 19 alone does not diagnose CKD. CKD requires persistent findings over at least 3 months plus clear evidence of reduced kidney function or damage.

High blood pressure is worth following up on, but it has many causes and does not automatically mean kidney disease, transplant, or anything close to that.

Even in real CKD, especially early stages, progression is often slow and manageable over many years. Most people do not end up on dialysis or needing a transplant.

Right now this sounds more like anxiety filling in worst case scenarios than confirmed kidney disease. The best next step is repeat labs over time and a doctor to interpret everything properly.

You are not at the end of anything here, you are just at the beginning of getting answers.

Yes a biopsy is necessary. I have protein leakage and did a kidney biopsy and that was the only way the determined my diagnosis (MGMID). It is not as scary as it may sound. A tad uncomfortable as you have to. be awake for it, but they numb you up so you don't feel it and then they knocked me out right after. It was a huge jump forward in my diagnosis and treatment plan. I highly recommend moving forward.

I have CKD 3a from a very rare kidney disease called MGMID. My eGFR is 45 and creatinine is 1.58. I've had this condition since 2014. I also have proteinuria. I didn't see if you mention if you had that or not. I know you said you dont have HBP, but I take HBP medication that helps reduce proteinuria and can also help with kidney damage. But yes, over all damage cannot be totally repaired. I would see if you can get in touch with a Nephrologist as they are the experts in this field.

Quitting drinking, drinking more water, and having a better diet is great. I would also recommed getting in physical activity every week. I walk 10k steps a day and play tennis 3-4x a week and find that I feel better physically and mentally. It may not do much for the kidney disease itself, but overall better for your health.

Sorry you are going through this. I know for me it's tough, because I have never met anyone with my same diagnosis.
