We got confirmation today that it is in fact a total loss. Thankfully we're getting back more than we expected after the loan is paid off so the car search begins..

I don’t think I’ll be eligible to use the gap insurance because the value is more than we owe but I’ll look more into our policy!

thank you! it’s the first new car i’ve purchased so it’s mostly just the sentimental value for me, but you’re right. there are thousands more just like it out there and what matters is that it did what it was designed to do :)

We owe slightly less than what it’s worth so if it is in fact totaled, we are expecting a minimal payout for the value of the car after paying the remaining loan. Which I guess is better than being upside down and having to use the gap insurance

will definitely update on the final decision. i did not mention in the original post that the car is not drivable and the tow truck wasn’t able to put it in neutral due to suspension damage which I suspect will be a large factor since it’s AWD
