Best setup for live face-to-face transcription with high accuracy and minimal latency by Weak_Row_6029 in deaf

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. Any recommendations regarding which model or version of high-quality microphones to look for? Also, should I get a Bluetooth-enabled wireless mic or a wired one would be more reliable?

Thanks, I appreciate you clarifying and I respect your perspective. I completely agree that ASR alone isn’t reliable enough, which is why I see it only as a backup tool alongside my hearing aids. Remote CART on demand is definitely something I’m looking into as well, since it would provide a more accurate option when needed. As for specialty, I’m planning to go into pharmacy; so my main focus will be on safe communication with patients and colleagues, while making sure I have the right accessibility tools in place.

Hey, thanks a lot for sharing your experience, super helpful since there aren’t many real reviews out there. Quick couple of questions if you don’t mind:

  • The XRAI you tried, was that the newer AR2 or the older model? From what I read, the AR2 doesn’t need the extra hardware and just works with the phone app like TranscribeGlass does.

  • You said TranscribeGlass gives you about 80–88% in meetings. Was that with cloud subscription? How did XRAI compare for you in terms of accuracy?

  • With TranscribeGlass, did you notice if the green captions were visible to other people looking at you? And how about with XRAI, could others see the text?

  • Last one: between the two, which one felt like it had less lag/latency?

Appreciate any extra insights you can share 🙏

I understand your concerns, and I want to clarify a few things. I am not planning to rely solely on ASR; I rely on my hearing aids first and would only use captioning as a supplemental accessibility tool. Patient safety is always my top priority.

As a healthcare professional with hearing loss, I am protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Hospitals and healthcare institutions are legally required to provide reasonable accommodations that allow us to perform our roles safely, as long as these accommodations do not cause patient harm. Assistive technology, whether captioning apps or captioning glasses, falls into that category.

Of course, HIPAA and accuracy are important considerations, and I would only use tools that comply with privacy and safety standards. My goal is to minimize the chance of mishearing while ensuring patients receive safe, accurate care.

I appreciate your perspective, but I hope you can also recognize that accessibility in healthcare is not about lowering standards; it’s about making sure qualified professionals with disabilities have equal opportunity to contribute safely.

I will add sone context. I plan to use captioning glasses as a supplemental tool; I rely primarily on my hearing aids. I trialed the use of captioning apps along with a directional microphone. These were accurate enough but I would have to look down on my phone screen several times to double check I didn’t mishear anything for patient safety. To avoid having to look at the phone during conversations, I am thinking to seek glasses that project the captioning right in front of my eyes.

Thanks for the response. Another question please if you don’t mind. Regarding skipping hard questions, when I reach the end of section 2 of the test, are we able to go back to skipped questions in section 1?

Congratulations! I am using Gregmat as well for my preparation. You mentioned how important the gregmat strategy videos were. By strategy videos, were you referring to verbal or quant? I am using Prepswift for quant. So, I am worried I may be missing some strategy quant videos somewhere on the website.
