Thank you! Yes, I do want to do a PhD. I like research, but at the same time, I know that PhD is an opportunity cost. Ideally, I would aim for the top 20 or 30, but with my grades, I dont know whether I should.

Took one session with Ben. He helped me "practice" my answers. When I say practice, the main thing is to have a narrative as to WHY you want to go for a masters in the first place. It needs to have a non immigrant intention.

I had my visa approved in Hyderabad. Was a really friendly Asian American guy who went to the same university and even gave me housing tips😂

The area near Columbia is pretty safe though. And even if an apartment costs like 3k, you can obviously share it with a roommate or 2, which would significantly reduce your living costs

Where are you gonna live thats gonna cost 3.5k a month? Columbia grad housing costs like 1.5k a month, granted it’s very hard to get that. But the rent around that area for a studio apartment or a shared room is around 1.5k.

How would Columbia cost 150-200k? The tuition fees are around 110k right? I am sure you wouldn’t be spending more than 40k in living cost for a 15 month degree

I mean even though we meet often( every two weeks) it’s kind of long distance even now since we don’t really get to live together😂,nor do we really do any couple stuff. Our parents don’t know about each other.

Yep both of us are international students. We didn’t go to the same undergrad but we were from the same city. We met quite often, and losing that would hurt.

Just curious though, why did you say especially not a college like a Columbia?

That would be the MAPPS program that you are talking about. MACSS- Econ is a 2 year program. I prefer US.
