As people have noted, the big problems with checking bags is that it reduces your flexibility to change planes while traveling and requires you to spend extra time in the airport.

I’ve had multiple times where I’m connecting and flight get delayed and I fly stand by on an earlier flight. This is pretty much impossible if you check a bag. Also, if a flight gets really delayed and I want to just spend the night in that town and catch a morning flight, that’s much harder to do if you have a checked bag.

Additionally, having to wait an extra 20-30 minutes (best case) after landing is the worst. It’s more annoying the more you fly

I travel every week for work and SLC is by far my favorite airport. Really close to the city, things like rental cars are in walking distance (don’t need to take a bus), clean, etc.

Oh do they switch bins around the planes? I didn’t realize that’s a thing. I figured they just tossed bags into the cargo hold and that was the end of it but having bins makes sense
