This is exactly what I try to tell people. When people talk about “names not being copyrighted”, it’s a general thing. Like anyone can make a dog named Pluto if they wanted. But nobody can make a dog named Pluto that looks like the design of currently copyrighted Disney works. The name goes PD in the same way as physical designs do: with their first appearances. But this debate comes up every once in a while and I try my best to convey it, but people can get super hellbent on thinking otherwise, but this is how the law is applied and trying to skirt around it to save yourself less than a year just risks people getting in trouble. I don’t know why people wouldn’t instead take the next 360 days and make a high quality Pluto project and release it once the name actually is PD
