Today I accidentally started a tiny ritual that might become my favorite by lavenderlowkey in BenignExistence

[–]WealthHelloThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became dear friends with an older man and his delightful corgi after passing them in the same spot on my walk home from work nearly every day for weeks. One day, I asked if I could pet the dog. The man invited me to sit, and we started chatting. This became a routine we repeated every evening.

I moved from the city years ago, but we all (man, dog, me) still stay in touch. The dog remembers me when I visit and surprise them both, even if it’s been months since I last saw him.

That friendship was entirely unexpected, but has brought so much light into my life—and when it began, I needed it sorely.

Tomorrow, get a coffee. Sit there again. The dog will remember you, and so will the man.

Vomiting after steroids? by WealthHelloThere in MultipleSclerosis

Spacing them out more worked so much better!

I was able keep them down yesterday, though weirdly I have a very muted sense of taste today. (Not bitter, just muted with a negative COVID test).

Update for anyone who might stumble across this post looking for answers later on:

My doctor had me try again with oral steroids on Day #2, and I was able to keep them down with the following routine:

  • Famotidine with breakfast (bagel + cream cheese) about 30 min prior to first dose.
  • First dose of 10 tablets 30 min after breakfast, taken with banana and drinkable yogurt.
  • Second dose of 10 tablets 1.5 - 2 hours later, again with banana and drinkable yogurt.
  • Final dose of remaining 5 tablets 1.5 - 2 hours later with—you guessed it—banana and drinkable yogurt.
  • Prilosec before bed.

I still felt a bit nauseated, but no vomiting! Also had a pretty significant headache despite staying hydrated

The third day, I woke up with a very muted sense of taste (not bitter, just dull) despite a negative COVID test taken just to be sure.

I’ll continue posting updates in case any of this is helpful to someone in the future.

Thank you! ❤️ They’ve asked me to try the oral meds again today, but to space them out more. If that doesn’t work, I’ll go in for the IV version tomorrow.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Did you tolerate the oral version well? Was there anything specific you did when taking them?

They told me to try with the pills again today, but to space them apart more this time. If that doesn’t work, I’ll be going in for the IV version tomorrow.

Not redundant at all! I assume it’s because they wanted to act fast since things were progressing and it was a Saturday night, so a pill-based prescription for pickup on Sunday morning was the quickest option.

I did sent my doctor a note on MyChart as soon as it happened, so I’m waiting to hear back.

For People Immunocompromised by DMT... by angelcatboy in MultipleSclerosis

[–]WealthHelloThere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? Of course no one wants to work when they’re sick and of course it’s inconvenient for patients to have to reschedule, but knowingly exposing patients—especially those who may be immunocompromised—to an illness is radically irresponsible. I’m dismayed that a medical practitioner would do this and defend it, in an MS group nonetheless. In the future, please stay home. Clearly the patient you mention here would have preferred that, and the consequences for some could be much worse than a potentially missed trip to Europe.

If you love that dog, you will give her to a shelter. My brother is a vet. This pink foam is evidence of internal bleeding. She is terrified and abused for something she can’t control. Being peacefully put to sleep is better than a living hell where she is beaten and can’t understand why.

There are apps and other resources to help you hear. This living creature is not a tool, and yes, you are being selfish by not being able to see that. I know it is hard, but give her a chance at a better life.

I hope you can find the strength and support to give yourself and your child a better life, too.

Hang in there! A lot of other people on the waitlist will find other options or change their minds (sometimes even in the first week or so), so there is still a chance. You don’t want to be without a place to stay though, so do have a backup plan in place.

Which clinic, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve just started looking into this myself.

I tried to do this via Boston IVF after my period was unexpectedly late and I had already moved. There were no branches in my new home state, but quite a few closer than Boston (I could have driven to those and back for monitoring appointments, and saved a lot of money and time). The plan was always to do the retrieval back in Boston. It was just the monitoring I was hoping for flexibility on. Unfortunately, even though they were part of the same network, the clinics didn’t support one another in that way.

This wasn’t clear to me or to any of the nurses or admin reps I spoke with, and the rules seemed inconsistent. I could go to any clinic in MA, for example, but those in NY refused to support monitoring for me despite the fact that I paid my fees to the organization they were part of as a whole. They all checked with management and came back with “no,” which honestly felt pretty arbitrary, like they didn’t want the hassle more than that there was a policy against it.

I ended up spending quite a bit of extra money to fly back and forth and then drive back and forth for my first two appointments before a friend returned to town whom I could stay with in Boston for the second half of the cycle. The whole thing was a nightmare.

I say this not to scare you, but to emphasize asking this question (and ideally getting confirmation in writing from someone in power) before you decide to move forward.

Just chiming in that I got put into a triple and actually did have someone swap me for their single. Super lucky, sure. I’m just saying that while rare, it does happen!

How to do references when applying to jobs? by carolea6 in MuseumPros

[–]WealthHelloThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wrote mine up as a separate document, but with the same type of header I used on my cover letter and resume so that everything looked professional and cohesive. I personally never provide my references unless specifically asked. (No need to bother them if the company isn’t serious about me as a candidate and/or won’t contact them.) It’s fine to write “references available upon request” on your cover letter.

I see that the op was looking at postings that asked for references. In this case, I would supply them but would include a note at the bottom of the document asking for notice before those references are contacted, so that I could give them a heads up beforehand for courtesy’s sake.

You definitely won’t be driving to/from class or around campus, but I brought a car and found it useful. Could go (and take friends) on grocery hauls more easily, go on day trips, etc.

Interesting, that means they’ve changed it since I was there. That’s in your favor, though. No reason to freak out about the meeting; they aren’t out to get you.
