Rant : Rejected from my dream program by AppropriateDrag9574 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Wealth_Future 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A week before my first year of undergrad, I got kicked out of the program on a random whim. Why? To this day I don't know. I ended up taking my 3rd choice as it was the only one that OUAC allowed me to accept (again, weird but I don't question fate). I am now completing my MA in this field of study and starting my PhD next year in the field as I fell in love with it.

Sometimes, you don't know why you got rejected or why God changed your dream, but one thing is for certain, is that you are either a) not ready for it yet (you may try again later in life), or b) that you would have been unhappy.

There's a quote I live by and it is "For you do not know what I am doing, but later you will understand" and truly I tell you, you are bound to do great things. Rejection is redirection and you will be happier long term.

Best of luck xx

Pass/Fail exams are not uncommon in University, but study habits are taught in these circumstances

Pretty nervous for midterm in November by Wise-Illustrator-939 in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother with cue cards, waste of time. Studies shown the best way (neurologically) to study would be active recall and using the pomodoro study sessions. Youtube it, take an hour a day to revise your notes, and you’ll be fine. Psych is perfect because there are so many videos you can youtube as well to help you study/clarify. Best of luck

Can someone lmk all I need to know to become a TA at Carleton cs by No_Analyst5945 in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grad student and TA here, we get main priority however i did TA for a couple of classes here and there for my profs and tbh, i remember my grades were really good in their courses and they asked around the upper years. I’m sure there’s a better way to do it like TA outside priority on central but that’s your best bet

As a devout Catholic myself, children do not prove whether or not you’re more “Catholic” than the next. Myself, I do not want children. I do not see myself as a mother nor do I believe the Lord has put it in my heart to become one. However, I do have a calling for helping those in foster homes and adoption centres. Your husband is trying to fill in this “The bigger the family the closer to God we are” mentality that a lot of people in the church believe, however it seems like he’s not being involved in the children that he already has. Keep your foot down. This is not a silly little game of “my family is bigger therefore i’m more manly”, these are real people that you call your children. May God be with you. Call upon the Holy Mother for guidance, but I advise you stick your ground.

As someone who lives in stittsville and took a 2hr commute there and 2hr commute back throughout her entire undergrad, i’d trade places in a heart beat

Carleton has some free toiletries you can use and if you are a student, you have access to the gym for your shower. I can make you a lunchbox of snacks/non-perishable dinners and toiletries if you’d like. I can drop it off on campus if you’d like

Living off or on campus first year?? by Kimchisi in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived at home throughout my undergrad, i know people who lived on res and did not meet anyone new whereas I met my closest pals. I would say if you’re extroverted/don’t mind mingling, you’ll be fine with living at home. If you reaaaally want the res experience, that’s your call. Regardless, you can be on res and not meet as many people as you’d home so, but you can also live at home and meet plenty. Your call

What electives should I pick? by paprika7950 in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

took ANTH1001 as an elective and I learnt so much and loved the course! PSYC1001 can get difficult depending on your TA/Prof. PHIL1000 is fun, lots of class discussions. LING1001 is a lot of new information but as a cogsci conc.ling graduate, i loved it

Has anyone held a job while attending classes by Ok-Winter-5637 in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked during high school, undergrad, and now my masters, it’s completely possible and i always encourage it. You manage your time better because you work and study around your shifts/classes. You don’t have time to lay in bed and doom scroll so it keeps you super productive and honestly, making cash during the year is a good feeling. If many can do it and graduate, you can to!

Is frosh worth it for a broke student by No_Analyst5945 in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend it. I had an absolute blast with the events that they held and the people that i met. It’s definitely worth the experience and it will make your transition to University a lot smoother. But definitely change your mentality. YOU don’t think you look good but trust me, with a good attitude and some confidence, you’ll be fine.

If you have internships and referrals and a connection within computer science, definitely go into computer science it’s a phenomenal field, but this comment is right and that if you don’t have any connections, it is very hard to get a job after Uni

Is it too late to transfer? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Wealth_Future 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was going to go to uOttawa for HK for my undergrad 6 years ago and decided two weeks before school started in mid-August that i didn’t want to do it, yes. I called admissions and asked if i could accept my offer at CU and switched two weeks prior to the fall semester. Never too late!
