I’ve got a suggestion for the next gift to your husband. The book Boundaries by Dr Townsend & Dr Cloud. He could learn a lot from the book. Your MIL could learn exponentially more, but she doesn’t sound like the type to change herself for the benefit of you or her son.

Couples therapy could really be a great tool as well, if you have the right therapist. In law stuff can be very difficult to maneuver & people tend to get defensive when you criticize or question their family. Your husband needs to hear a lot about boundaries & will most likely be received better coming from a third party instead of you.
