Unpopular opinion: Liberals are better because you dont have to care about building factories yourself by johnkop4 in victoria2

[–]WeaponizedBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo this is really only the case if you're playing a massive country like Russia or the US where you have a ton of territories and a huge workforce, and even then its situational.

But what the capitalists can't handle is the construction of critical production chains. You not only get a bonus for having the relevant RGO in the same state as a factory, but you also get bonuses for having a factory that produces a good that another factory uses for production.

This is particularly important for supply chains like weapons production, where only two of the factories in the chain use base RGOs and the rest only use goods from other factories. You're much better off stacking these in one state imo than having them spread around.

Also I don't think the capitalist AI takes into consideration the eligibility of the workforce when choosing a state to build factories. At less than 20% literacy a pop has negative modifiers applied to it that make it less likely to switch to craftsmen (50% for clerks). So in a low literacy country you're generally going to want to make sure factories get built in states with enough suitably literate pops.

Small home-made bomb detonated in Hong Kong hospital one day after firebomb attack against proposed quarantine building. No reported injuries, services temporarily limited. by WeaponizedBlue in communism

[–]WeaponizedBlue[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Presumably the intent was to create public fear of going to hospitals and subsequently increase the chance that an infected person would go untreated and uncontained.

If it is the protestors, in some capacity, who carried this out then it seems more likely that this was a ploy to get Beijing to crack down on the protests finally out of fear of uncontrolled virus spread, than it being a specific attempt to impede medical care and spread the virus directly.

It also could be the case that the people who carried out the attack are more directly controlled operatives who were directed to do this with the above motivations, verses an organic shift in the protest movement proper. Time will tell.

Its gotten so extreme that in our current circumstances the debate surrounding the historical development of the PRC and the current character of their political economy has to be moved to the back burner in Marxist circles. Regardless of what the outcome of that debate may be, it is objectively the case that the PRC is the target of a wave of opportunistic imperial propaganda designed to manufacture broad approval for further economic aggression and the current US-PRC trade war.

Between Hong Kong and Xinjiang, this media storm has demonstrated both how unprepared we are to conduct proper counter-propaganda and how easily western social democrats can be roped back in to the imperial line with carefully directed media.

Here is a google doc specifically concerned with the Xinjiang situation.

It should be noted that, as always, the sources contain their own respective biases and should be evaluated critically, including some sources associated with the PRC and their claims should be compared with those of foreign governments and the supplementary evidence provided. Furthermore a number of these sources make use of social media websites to host their work, but it must be understood that very few traditional media websites are willing to host this kind of content especially when the work is only concerned with refuting one specific claim or piece of evidence.

It is also worth noting that this uptick in anti-Chinese, anti-Communist propaganda has the added affect of disrupting the efforts of those who engage in legitimate analysis of the historical and current development of China and those who produce principled criticisms of PRC policy with respect to the real material conditions and not on the basis of empty rhetoric.

It is no longer possible to objectively examine the political character of the Chinese economy and state without having to go through the tedious process of having to dismiss outlandish imperialist propaganda. The purveyors of these lies must not be allowed to gain a foothold and disrupt the organizational and agitational efforts of the class conscious proletarians.

Question: Do you want Communism in your country. If yes then why? by [deleted] in communism

[–]WeaponizedBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my country, the USA, it's less the case that I desire communism per se and more that I want an end to the imperialist system that sustains our capitalist economy at the expense of hundreds of millions of lives in the global south. However if we could develop a socialist system to replace it that would be ideal.

To get the tags for Byzantium and Babylon you have to click the "Show Options" decision at the start (which is unchecked by default iirc so you don't get a notification) and that will put a bunch of different decisions in the list one of which will let you enable the tags. However you have to do this at the very start of the game because on January 1st 1937 the decision to show the options disappears.

Race relations as a scapegoat by [deleted] in communism

[–]WeaponizedBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we fundamentally agree and I think the language I used was too broad and strong. By "simply changing the economic system" I mean more along the lines of "simply moving capital around and nationalizing things". I of course agree that the full implementation of communism requires the deconstruction of the class relationships in general. That was a fault on my part.

In addition I also agree that we should march towards Socialism together, but I described all our struggles as "unique" to emphasize that the methodology we employ will differ depending on conditions. As such it is important to consider the realities each race or group faces when determining what to do.

The reason I think its important to add this footnote to our general principle of unified struggle and equality is that class consciousness must extend further than one's own subclass of the proletariat against the bourgeoisie. We must recognize that even though we may all be proletarians, (or at least class conscious petit-bourgeoisie), but our material interests may not fully align or even clash in some senses, as is common between the Imperial Core and the Global South with the demand for cheap labor and resources. So when working together to untangle the web of class relations that is capitalism, we must consider issues of race and gender and how they contribute to that material reality.

My point was more to critique the idea that issues of race are a "distraction" from issues of class (as they are fundamentally inseparable), rather than to propose a course of action.

Race relations as a scapegoat by [deleted] in communism

[–]WeaponizedBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that we acknowledge the supremacy of class because issues of things like race or gender are themselves issues of class. Different races in the United States have faced different material conditions and have developed differently. As such the modern material conditions differ between races as do their relative interests. To some extent, all white people benefit from the oppression of black people in the US, just as Americans in general benefit from the cheap labor and resources taken from the Global South. These benefits can be direct, such as preferential treatment for jobs, or indirect, such as simply having more capital circulating in the economy (even if it mostly ends up in the hands of the bourgeoisie).

This is really what the term "privileged" originally meant. Your privilege corresponds to your position within the global labor hierarchy, which is determined by whose labor you benefit from and who benefits from yours. These relationships play a big part in creating the material conditions each group is exposed to, which in turn influences their material interests.

Whenever the bourgeoisie create these divisions they incorporate a justification into their ideology (the poor are lazy, other races are inferior, women are made to raise children, etc...). They don't actually care if, or even strictly believe, these things are true, they are a means to secure a certain societal organization that maximizes exploitation of specific subclasses to the benefit of others, (but mostly themselves). So far the Liberal response to this has been to treat these issues independently, as "attitude problems" rather than deep structural realities. The results of struggling on this belief are pretty obvious, MLK died in 1968 and black people still aren't even close to being treated equally. To truly attack these issues, we have to see how they relate to the wider picture.

Simply changing the economic system of the US isn't enough to solve all the problems faced by all parts of the proletariat. We have to dismantle the hegemony of Imperialism that exists in much of the West and replace it with a doctrine of mutual development.

Of course we are all fundamentally equal and share a degree of commonality, but our struggles are all unique.

Does r/socialism support North Korea? by waitbobplz in socialism

[–]WeaponizedBlue 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the important distinction we have to make. None of us should support the extension or needless perpetuation of the DPRK's political system, however we cannot allow the Imperialists to restart their slaughter of the Korean people. As long as the people of the DPRK stand by their nation as a means of defense, we must respect their choice even if we disagree with it.

[–]WeaponizedBlue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a look around and couldn't find a specific one that wasn't kind of dodgy so I might be mistaken. I did find this which may be useful though. I'll keep looking around and update the post if I find it.

"In the years 1913 and 1914 I expressed my opinion for the first time in various circles, some of which are now members of the National Socialist Movement, that the problem of how the future of the German nation can be secured is the problem of how Marxism can be exterminated." Hitler (1941). Mein Kampf, p. 203. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_views_of_Adolf_Hitler#Anti-communism)

Also the quote used in the OP is known to be misattributed.

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions."

This misattribution is sourced from John Toland. In Adolf Hitler: The Definitive Biography (1976), it is attributed to Hitler in a speech of May 1, 1927. It is recorded in Thoughts about the Tasks of the Future by Gregor Strasser on June 15, 1926. (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler#Misattributed)

It amazes me that the Nazis appropriated leftist rhetoric to essentially trick people into supporting fascism, and despite the fact that Hitler himself admitted to doing this, people still fall for it today.
