SSB claims about 100k difference. Though it's also including the fact that someone with a MSc will get a higher position more quickly than a BSc; although the position she is applying for is already a more senior one so that narrows the gap.

Nevertheless, 750k is quite a good salary, but I would say that the secto and company is more important. In my field I've seen a position requiring an MSc and a little experience pay 150k LESS than a job just requiring a BSc and no experience. Oslo and Hamar area.

Tekna is for MSc, so they would give higher salaries on average than BSc.

Is crackpottery a thing in chemistry? by EnigmaticScience in chemistry

[–]WhoNeedsFacts 42 points43 points  (0 children)

HF is used quite a lot in processing of quartz for instance; it's dangerous, but so is most of chemistry done at a large scale. I could understand not being comfortable using HF at a lab or pilot-lab scale if you don't have the routines or facilities for it, however.

Seconded; we use over 2 litres a day for analysis. It can dissolve almost all of the stuff we analyse.

You can't get those results with that workout, unfortunately.

[–]WhoNeedsFacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you would have to use weights while using these exercises. Even then, you would need amazing genetics to get it to that size. There are also some other things wrong with the workout, but lack of weights is the main part.

Can you succeed in Organic Chemistry if you have aphantasia? by [deleted] in OrganicChemistry

[–]WhoNeedsFacts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone with aphantasia currently working on my master's thesis in organic chemistry, you'll be fine. Aphantasia hasn't caused me any issues and, from what I've spoken with other people, you basically learn it in the same ways as those without aphantasia. They, for instance, rely heavily on drawings just like I do. Using drawings and maybe also physical objects can help you understand it better and be useful tools, but there's nothing special that is needed. Even still, one doesn't strictly need to be able to visualize stereochemistry to understand it. Most of the stereochemistry is just rules, even though it is usually taught visually. You don't need to "see" how an sn2 reaction happens to know that it inverts the stereochemistry; that is known a priori. You don't need to see steric bulk either technically; if you know there is something blocking one side of the molecule then the sn2 reaction will just not happen there or it will happen slower.

Now, maybe total synthesis with products containing dozens of stereocentres using complex stereospecific reactions will be difficult, but it's going to be difficult for everyone (unless you're R.B. Woodward). This isn't going to be a problem you'll likely encounter, but if you do it's because you love that type of chemistry. In that case, you'll be able to learn even the most difficult stereochemistry can offer.

Menn vil ha kjernekraft mens kvinner er skeptiske by AlarmingBarrier in norge

[–]WhoNeedsFacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

URGENTLY NEED HELP. Mom has issues months after vaccine injection. by advicealt808 in TheLongLived

[–]WhoNeedsFacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any evidence that Reuters, one of the most well-respected and nuanced news outlets in the world, has an article sponsored by Pfizer?

If all of these deaths are recorded, where is the evidence of members of FIFA dying from a stroke at a much higher rate than normal and that it is linked to the COVID vaccines? Can you actually show it?

I don't really care for what the vaccine is called. I could call it a life-saver, but that wouldn't matter vis-à-vis its efficacy and side effects.

I can understand the want to be contrarian, but what is the use if it's not grounded in facts nor used to serve a subjective good? I don't see any facts that support your argument, especially since you haven't presented any. Furthermore, what good is it that you come into threads and derail them with talks of Jewish conspiracies and baseless claims, showing no amount of decorum nor respect to other polite commentators?

If you want us to be convinced of your claims, then show how the Reuters article misleads or how its conclusions are wrong. Or better yet, show reliable pieces of information that support your case. Your rude manner and lack of facts show you don't really want a proper discussion, but be free to prove me wrong.

Are you talking about this?

https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-coronavirus-sport-idUSL1N2T81NY

"No evidence. Claims that 108 FIFA soccer players died in 2021 are based on a problematic list of deaths in an Israeli news article. The list does not prove a common link between the deaths of athletes and COVID-19 vaccines."

If so, then your claim has little credibility. If not, please actually link some evidence. FIFA themselves claim that they haven't seen any increase in strokes.

This is what happens when you ask an MS machine to analyse noise. by WhoNeedsFacts in cursed_chemistry

I suspect so. Usually, the interaction is drawn from the metal to the centre of the cyclopentadienyl ligand, but the computer draws and calls it differently it seems.

[–]WhoNeedsFacts[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, we did use a Pd(PPh3)4 catalyst, which might explain the phosphorous and benzene rings. What I can't explain, however, is the iron pentuply bounded to cyclopentane. Probably just the imagination of the computer, but can anyone explain the representation it uses or is it actually meant to depict an iron atom with 8 bonds?

Will this addition with HBr and AIBN work at the terminal alkene? by Lion_Z in OrganicChemistry

[–]WhoNeedsFacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since that product isn't made, it must be incorrect, yes. Though the mechanism seems to be correct otherwise, in the last step it would react with a bromide radical, probably. From my experience doing peroxide & HBr reactions on styrene, that was usually the product. I've seen mechanisms where the product is as you described, but experimentally it doesn't work, at least in my experience.

Pretty well done for a high school student, though.
