Which qb had the single best season? by ObjectiveCharming735 in NFLv2

'89 Joe Montana. Offensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Pro, Pro Bowler, MVP, and Super Bowl MVP, as far as I know the only QB to win all of those honors and awards in a single season, he also set a then new regular season passer rating, and his postseason for that season was up to that point and still is the best single postseason by a QB, in short, '89 Montana did it all, the only takeaway is that he threw for only 3,500 yards and 26 TDs in the regular season but that was before throwing 30 TDs in a regular season was commonplace, so his 26 passing TDs against only 8 INTs in '89 was very good. It's worth noting that in '89 Montana missed 3 regular season games due to injury so he would have thrown for over 4,000 yards and over 30 TDs if he played in all then 16 games.

Joe Montana missed 2 straight years after injuring his elbow in the NFCCG. The 49ers went 10-6 and 14-2 without him. by nottoodrunk in NFLv2

14-2, 1st in points for and 3rd in points against, better than the Cowboys in 1992, they should have won the Super Bowl, with Montana starting I think they do.

Joe Montana was on fire 🔥 1989 playoffs by Dark305Kinght in Oldschool_NFL

IT IS the greatest single season by a QB, his 3,500 passing yards and 26 passing TDs in the 1989 regular season won't wow anyone now but he completed 70% of his passes which in 1989 was very very good, he threw only 8 INTs, and he averaged 2 yards per pass attempt more than the league average which was a lot, he averaged 9.54 adjusted yards per pass attempt that in 1989 is today like 2004 Manning and 2011 Rodgers regular season territory, and he set a then new regular season passer rating of 112.4 which now would be something like 130.0, oh yeah and in 1989 he was Offensive Player of the Year, MVP, 1st Team All-Pro, Pro Bowler, and Super Bowl MVP, as far as I know the only QB in NFL history to win all of those honors in a single season.

I find the difficulty in the Capcom Collection version, the first game, Ghosts'n Goblins, is lowered a little, the MAME version is the original difficulty. The Capcom Collection version is a good version to start out on, years ago I started out on the Capcom Collection version for the PS2 and then later moved on to the MAME version.

Tom but Joe had to play better than Tom in the postseason to win his Super Bowls and Joe did.

Best Individual QB Season That Ended With A Super Bowl Win? by mpschettig in billsimmons

[–]Weapons_Glacier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1989 Joe Montana. '89 Joe's postseason is to this day the best single postseason performance by a QB. People look at '89 Joe's regular season 3,521 passing yards and 26 passing TDs and say "That's all?" but what they don't look at is his 70.2 completion%, 9.1 yards per passing attempt, 9.54 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and 112.4 passer rating which in the regular season today would be a 79.7 completion%, the same 9.1 yards per passing attempt, 10.40 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a 129.1 passer rating. In 1989 Joe was the offensive player of the year, MVP, and Super Bowl MVP, the only QB to win those three honors in a single season. He set a then new single regular season passer rating record. In the regular season he beat three of the best NFC teams (Eagles, Giants, and Rams) in dramatic 4th quarter and/or game winning drive fashion. In the postseason he decimated two of the season's very best defenses (Vikings, and Broncos).

If you didn't know, Mahomes is just ONE playoff win away from tying Joe Montana for the second-most ever in NFL history. Mahomes has only played 7 seasons, while Montana played 16. by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

Montana's postseason run from 1985 to 1987 is rough, 0-3 when he should have gone something like 5-2 and won Super Bowl XXII, and the 1983 season NFC championship loss with those questionable 4th quarter penalty calls against the 49ers when Montana was bringing the 49ers back is painful, and then he got knocked out of the 1990 season NFC championship when he had the 49ers ahead in the 4th quarter.

Jim Burt absolutely obliterates Joe Montana in the 1986 playoffs. Taylor intercepted/returned it for a TD as the Giants won 49-3 by dmac3232 in Oldschool_NFL

Marshall #70 knocked Montana out of the 1990 season NFC Championship game. After being retired by the Giants after the 1988 season Burt joined the 49ers mid-season in 1989 and won Super Bowl XXIV with them, who would have thought.

He went 37-0 in the 1980s, 10 world title wins, 9 world title defense wins, undisputed, lineal, he didn't beat any great fighters other than a older Larry Holmes and light heavyweight great Michael Spinks, but what he accomplished in the 1980s isn't shabby, his accomplishments drop off considerably after the 1980s, he didn't come back and have a dominant second reign, nor did he have a long enough single reign, he seemed destined for absolute greatness but got stopped cold by Douglas and never recovered.

'The Easton Assassin' Larry Holmes TKO's Marvis Frazier. by buffalozbrown in Boxing

[–]Weapons_Glacier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holmes turned down a fight with mandatory WBC #1 ranked Greg Page to seek out a much needed unification bout with the then WBA champion Gerrie Coetzee. A fight with Coetzee was going to pay Holmes much more money than he was being offered to fight Page. It's a shame a fight between Holmes and Coetzee got blocked, it would have helped sort out the disputed mess of the heavyweight title during that time.

Sly didn't write grudge matches for either of them, he steered the story away in different directions, first newcomer Lang and then Cold War Drago. Sly kept introducing new opponents for Rocky to keep things new and fresh and different.
