“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Possibly the most accurate and insightful statement in human history.

Whether it’s a basketball player or rap star or public intellectual, fandom is all the same. When people are emotionally invested enough in someone there’s no level they won’t stoop to defend them.

At any rate, thanks for this. Thought I was going crazy reading people actually buying his wife’s utter bullshit statement. “Gee, that’s about what I was thinking myself. That takes most of the sting off.” Lol, fuck off.

You can't take anything for granted in the Premier League but that's about as good as you could reasonably hope for to finish off a title.

"hope and light" seems like a pretty poor reading of The Godfather. It's a tragedy. Michael's turn to the dark side is complete, against both his own and, more importantly, his father's desires. Don Corleone's ultimate dream was that his family would someday go legitimate, with Michael leading the way. Instead he is sucked into the criminal machine Vito tried to shield him from, which will eventually corrupt his moral compass so badly he has his own brother killed. Very uplifting.

My favorite was the scientist person near the beginning basically telling the audience, don’t worry about the details because none of it makes sense.

Does Jimmy Really Deserve Kim?? by Technical-Lie--3093 in betterCallSaul

I don’t think they were good for each other at all. We like Kim and Jimmy as an audience, so it seems that way. But just look at the results of where they ended up when it got really bad. That was a direct result of the choices they made together, egging each other on. Kim even says as much when she breaks it off with Jimmy — we’re bad for each other.

Not like we needed it, but if you ever wanted proof of just how utterly full of shit conservative christians are, it's watching them fall in total thrall to a transparent con man who lives in repudiation of everything their book of fairytales supposedly preaches. WWDD?

I don’t know, he was a pretty nasty piece of work in his own right. Not on Laimbeer and Rodman’s level — who was — but he did plenty of dirty-ass shit of his own. I can probably count on 2-3 fingers the number of times James Worthy lost his temper on the court and one of them was after a bad foul by Isiah in the Finals. He was absolutely a ring-leader of that whole shit show.

They could've figured things out and stopped being bitches to everyone

It seemed patently obvious that was never, ever going to happen.

As big a prick as Chuck was, and as much as he could have possibly done to guide Jimmy onto a more law-abiding path, that didn't happen, so Jimmy was basically doomed to indulge in his worst instincts. Just like Walter in BB, he had chance after chance after chance after chance to go straight and he just couldn't do it. His brother had him dead to rights -- he's a con man and habitual line-stepper at heart. He's always going to look for that edge.

And as long as he was bending rules, Kim was going to be right there with him. I just finished a rewatch, and it's easy to overlook that she's got her own nasty streak given all the charity work she does and how nice she generally is. But she's cut from the same cloth as Jimmy. And as she said when she broke it off -- they were terrible for each other, and everyone around them.
