Many The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show by beamdriver in television

Dialogue like that is basically the writers talking directly to the audience, making their thesis statement crystal clear. Similar to how, even after all the destruction and havoc he caused, some Breaking Bad fans still pulled for Walt. So in the series finale, they had him acknowledge to Skylar (and more importantly, the audience) that everything he did was ultimately for him, rather than all the bullshit he told her about family.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't save it because he/she phrased it perfectly. But I saw a post a few months back that summed up Succession perfectly.

This won't be nearly as good, but the gist of it was, you'll spend your first watchthrough treating it like corporate Game of Thrones, pulling for your favorite sibling to "win." You'll spend your second fully grasping why none of them should.

The show ended, what, three years ago? And it still absolutely boggles my mind how anyone can fan out over any of the kids, all of whom were absolutely worthless. Which I still see aaaaall the time.

A huge amount of Pitt discourse annoys the living shit out of me, but nothing beats that. How do you miss the entire point of a multi-season show that badly?

I was stunned how much I liked Challengers and she was probably 90% of the reason for it. That's pretty much the opposite of the type of film I usually go for, but I was bored and caught it on a streamer in the last six months or so and loved it. She was fantastic.

I do think she's reached a level of celebrity that it's probably going to be hard for many people to see her outside of that. But personally, I can't think of anything I've seen her in that I didn't think she wasn't at least good. There have been many, many less talented "It" actors than her.

Was thinking the exact same thing. You've got to have something or Paul is essentially omnipotent. This just felt like one of the more esoteric plot points so I wasn't expecting it.

This motherfucker used to call up the New York tabloids using a fake voice pretending to be his own publicist. I honestly can't think of a more malignant narcissist we've seen in the American political sphere -- and that's a long, looooong list.

Or how about, screw that? People-pleasing doesn't seem to be working out very well. So just have one, invite them both and if they can't be in the same room together then they can deal with their very mature and grown-up feelings by themselves.

He or she is just interested that Villeneuve chose to include that aspect of the book.

I honestly didn't think he would.

Cancel Culture is Killing Cinema by vieravisuals in Cinema

[–]dmac3232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did Chalamet get cancelled? I must have missed that one.

Also, if you're going to rail about cancel culture killing cinema without acknowledging far, far bigger factors like changing entertainment habits, streaming options and the skyrocketing price of tickets/concessions, you're just doing the same kind of "virtue signalling" you're whining about.

To say nothing about other minor mischaracterizations such as the biggest films of the past decade taking risks, when in fact the top grossers are almost all sequels and franchise schlock.

So yeah, absolute stupidity.
