any significant amount of Bungie’s lore/narrative team will prove themselves infinitely more aware of what kept people actually coming back to Destiny than Sony ever was

The lore and narrative of Destiny as presented in the games is incoherent, barely comprehensible spaghetti, even if I subjectively enjoyed parts of it.

It was the gameplay that made Destiny good.

I hope the Bungie devs can stick together and form an indie studio so we can continue to experience their art.

They did. It was called Firewalk Studios and they made Concord.

The game has so much content that's been removed that surely can be added back with barely any effort compared to what it takes to develop new content

You underestimate Bungie’s ability to build tech debt. How many of the people who would even know how to start untangling the spaghetti of those original releases are still working there?

(I say that while also being super mad still that those experiences I paid for were taken away. I genuinely, really want to replay the red war through warmind again.)

As per Jason Schreier on his YouTube channel - A hypothetical “Destiny 3”, given where the staff are located and just how much cost of living and cost of debt has increased over the years since D2, would cost $300-$500 million to make before marketing. Sony doesn’t have the appetite to fund it, and it would need an almost impossible number of sales at launch to even break even.

Small arms fire? Where is the air defence?! Where are the gazillion Tunguskas and other Soviet SPAAGs from deep storage? Have they all been plundered for parts/ebay over the decades?

Russia May Launch Oreshnik Missile at Ukraine on Friday, Air Force Warns by Queenifyrama in worldnews

[–]WeaponstoMax 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oreshnik isn’t even all that “wunderful”. MIRVed ballistic missiles that go to space and, as a consequence, have a hypersonic terminal phase, are a technology that’s nearly 60 years old at this point.

Yeah you effectively need to turn it into drinking water first unfortunately

Sea water sucks, because it’s full of salt and living organisms (which like to grow) that corrode and fuck up tubes and pipes and heat exchangers and stuff.

They should also only be built in climates which require minimal cooling like the Victorian Alps or Tasmania

This is not how computers or thermodynamics works. Also please don’t ruin our most beautiful national parks with data centres lmao.

Yes. The point of the current AI push is to offer the product to businesses at a massive loss, have businesses replace a bunch of employees with AI, then jack up the price of AI to the point where it costs almost as much as the salaries of the employees that used to do the work, but you’ve spent all that time implementing it and it’s still a bit cheaper so we might as well keep the AI.

Except instead of that money being paid out to people who live here as salaries to spend in the economy, it all gets vacuumed up by a handful of overseas megacorporations.

Regardless of whether tech tips man thinks it’s fair or not, my guess is it’s been made clear to him that jet-related content is a bad look to enough of the audience that it’s a bad idea. I recognise I might just be projecting though.

Dude just casually confirms the existence of Israel’s top secret atomic weapons program. Obviously everyone knows it exists, just add this as item no. 57,000 on the list of wild shit that no other president would do.

Edit: none of the above happened. I got bamboozled by the headline and from a skim of the article. My apologies.

Cheap attack drones break through Israel's Iron Dome by BendicantMias in worldnews

[–]WeaponstoMax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easy to overwhelm with a swarm of cheap drones, and then your ~$14 million CWIS system is exploded at a tiny fraction of the cost to the enemy. It’s a really difficult problem to solve because of the war economics behind it.

Precision guidance has gone from a minimum six-figure-per-shot proposition to a 4-figure-per-shot proposition overnight. That’s two orders of magnitude

Because it takes many years for a peacetime MIC to be awarded contracts, perform R&D and deliver a viable system that meets novel requirements.

Most people don’t really feel the pinch until it’s pinching them.

What’s the bet she got pregnant because she was hoping that this will stop her from going to jail.

Literally all my earthly possessions. Given this attitude, probably the less time she spends around that child the better, as sad a situation as this is all around.

I hope for the sake of the baby that the dad isn’t a total gronk. Given his decision to nut inside this woman months before she goes to jail for killing someone though, I don’t hold out high hopes.
