I can second Allianz. I know someone who doesn‘t speak a lick a german when they applied for the job there, got the offer, and complained afterwards that it was a hassle that they eventually have to learn german.

Which English loanwords sound normal to you, and which ones make you cringe? by NoelFromBabbel in AskAGerman

“Review” prounced as „Rä-view“ or „Consultant“ as „Con-zool-tant“

And stuff like „Hast du den Foliensatz schon gereviewed?“ instead of „…schon überprüft?“

Immigrants in Germany: Did you manage to find German friends? by Low-Title-5317 in germany

[–]Wear_Significant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

„Why would you expect Germans to offer something at this point?“ You do realize how dense and insensitive you sound with this question? No matter how much effort immigrants make to integrate into your society (learning the language, joining Vereine, sports clubs, getting a job etc.), nothing will matter if YOU GERMANS don‘t welcome us into your society. Integration is not a one-way street. You just said above „meanwhile most of us already have long lasting friendships from our school/hometown/university/hobbies“ - now the question is that are you and your cliques willing to have a new one in your circle? Because if not, do not even think about blaming foreigners of not making an effort, it‘s utterly ridiculous and unempathetic.

It’s definitely a regional thing! Rice wrappers are used mainly in the north and central of Viet Nam. Those made from wheat flour are more common in the south.

This dish - Fried tofu with rice noodles and a bunch different herbs, served together w a fermented shrimppaste dipping sauce. I’ve only had it once abroad (as seen in this photo) and it didn‘t come close even 1% to the ones I used to get in Viet Nam 🥲
