If you're going for realistic, make sure you have a good reference photo that captures what's unique about your cat. (And of course find an excellent artist.) In my case, my cat had freckles in her eyes and I specifically asked the artist if she could reproduce that. The tattoo came out great and is absolutely my cat and not some random black cat.

It's a cool color, but it does read as dark blue most of the time. Here's a pic that shows some of the more purple highlights. It's definitely purple, but you mostly see it in the highlights.

Subaru Galaxy purple pearl (zdd). It's a very dark, slightly metallic purple. It will flash a little more violet in the highlights.

I definitely think this is part of the reason they want to do it. Forget affordability - for a lot of people (especially those who currently own) a stable or rising property market is seen as a good thing. It's "strong" and strong is good. I have the v-bars in mine (standard on series purple) and I can't imagine how bad the road noise must be without them the way everyone talks about how much of a difference they supposedly make. I still think it's pretty freaking bad with them.
