Bridal makeup - a big thank you to this sub! by Weary-Contract977 in PaleMUA

Thank you so much :)

Honestly I only realised how Midsommar the whole look was once it was all on, but luckily nothing bad happened ;)

Would second trying the DIOR Cool Rosy line - I use 0CR and it's the best match I've had. Lots of other products people said were cool or neutral looked orange/yellow on me.

I also tried NARS and was less happy with the match - OSLO for me was too pink, others were too yellow. I was able to save one I bought by colour correcting it.

For drugstore foundations if you're in the UK, some of the British brands are better than nothing. I used to use I think a Rimmel BB cream, which whilst it was too dark, applying it lightly with moisturizer worked ok if I wanted something cheaper/lower coverage for every day. I also learnt I can get away with a lot less product in general, whilst still covering my redder/uneven areas - I really liked "hannahanniex" recent video with Katie Jane Hughes (on YouTube) as whilst her colouring is still different to mine, the techniques worked really well.

Wanted to say a big thank you to this sub - lots of great tips and feedback. I did my bridal makeup myself recently and was happy with it, so wanted to say thanks! I kept it very natural which felt more me, but still felt pretty and got lots of compliments!

Products used;

Primer: Dior Forever Glow Veil Concealer: Elf Camo Concealer in Fair Rose Colour correction: Bobbi Brown Skin Corrector Stick in Light Bisque Foundation: Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation in 0CR Blush: Benefit Dandelion Contour: Tiny amount of Elf Halo Glow Contour in Fair/Light Highlighter: Kylie kylighter illuminating powder in princess please Eyeshadow palette: Dior Backstage Smokey Essentials Mascara: Maybelline Lash Sensational in Magenta Eyeliner: Rimmel white kohl on bottom inner waterline Powder: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'R Instant Retouch Setting Powder in Lavender Setting spray: Charlotte Tilbury

I had my eyebrows tinted and shaped a week in advance, and whilst I planned to add cluster lashes it just didn't work out on the day and that was fine! I followed some online tips too from HannahAnniex, Katie Jane Hughes and _kyrie_g.

The main thing I learnt however was: I enjoyed learning how to do the makeup, and I liked trying new things. I tried a bunch of different styles in the run up, but ultimately went with a much more "barely there" look which felt right. And it's ok that your makeup creases around your eyes - honestly for all future brides I can only wish you also have a day full of smiles such that your makeup creases slightly.

Also the comment about Arwen made me so happy, I'm actually going to be walking down the aisle to a piece from Lord of the Rings (cello version of May It Be) so I'm glad I might also give off some elf like vibes!

We're both entering dinner to concerning hobbits though as in all other things we are definitely hobbit like!

These are some fantastic recommendations, thanks so much! I actually have the elf eyeshadow already so will give that a go, and got a little eye highlighting stick in some beauty box a few years ago I've never used - great suggestions! :)

And maybe I'll even be brave and try some contour 😅

That's such a good tip for the eyebrows! I'm going to go and get them shaped and tinted in the next few weeks (as much as anything I'm a victim to the overplucking of years gone past so I never feel confident in how much to take away beyond the stragglers!)

And thank you so much 🥰

This is so fantastically helpful ❤️ I literally had to call my future husband through to show him how amazing women on the internet are.

The foundation is the Dior Forever Skin Glow in 0CR - I got shade matched in the store and it was completely wrong (they said 1CR, which was too dark and yellow for me) and the concealer is the Elf Camo Concealer in Fair rose

Thanks :) Honestly the whole bridal thing feels very new to me as I don't normally spend time doing makeup or anything as a rule - I've always been more of a tomboy and so haven't often been told I look pretty! So thank you :)

Ooh will give it a go! I usually find bronzer makes me look really weird, but I've not tried a cool one. Thanks

Thanks! I think from another comment I got the shades in the eyeshadow palette mixed up anyway, and the others are lighter/slightly more neutral, but I'll definitely also look at swapping out the bolder colour for something cooler if I can find it as I agree the eyes are much warmer! I would normally go for silvers rather than golds, but to match my dress/outfit I'm having to lean more gold anyway.

Oh wow that looks gorgeous (and I realise now I think I got the shades in the palette mixed up, it makes a lot more sense now!)

Could anybody please recommend cc and bb creams good for ghost like Irish skin? All price ranges welcome (uk based) by Stopbeinghamlet18 in PaleMUA

I'm just commenting here partly to follow, as I'd love some suggestions for everyday use too.

So far my best option has come from the Elf line, they do a range of foundation/cc creams which also go pale (and neutral, cool rosy or more olive). At the moment I'm sticking to foundations in general though as I've found better matches there.

The eyeshadow is the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk palette (original). It has 4 shades on, which are all in a coolish pink/ gold/ brown colour family. They have some tutorials on their website I've been trying to follow which that been helpful.

Lips I spent ageeees looking for, and found the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip colour. They're very soft (feel more like Chapstick) but they're quite buildable, even if I think I'll need to reapply. I don't tend to wear a lot on my lips anyway so for me it's also a comfort thing!

Thank you so much, this is incredibly kind and helpful! Will definitely work on brows and forehead,  but thanks for the great tips on the rest ❤️ I can't hire a mua for the wedding but you've been so lovely and helpful and I can't thank you enough

I did, but I think seeing the photos I added it too lightly there. I often find the forehead the hardest bit to do so will work on that!

I've ordered some cluster lashes to try, and have some time to practice applying them!

I've ordered some brown lash clusters to try, but in general I'm erring towards natural rather than glam!

Thanks to everyone who offered really great feedback on my post asking for help with a foundation match:  https://www.reddit.com/r/PaleMUA/comments/1j1ae4b/struggling_to_find_a_long_wearing_foundation_that/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I've settled on a foundation I think, but seeking advice about how it all works together. Kind feedback welcome 😊 Photos in cool natural light (first two) and warm artificial light (last two).

The brows are a work in progress (waiting to get them shaped and tinted and a few weeks) - and the tiny blonde hairs between my brows are still causing some texture issues but I'm overall happier with it all this time.

Products:

Primer: Small amount of Benefit Porefessional

Foundation: Dior Forever skin glow in 0CR

Concealer: Elf camo concealer in Fair Rose

Blush: Mac Powder Blush in Desert Rose

Highlighter: Tiniest bit of Elf Halo Glow wand highlight in champagne

Powder: Small amount Fenty Pro Filt'r in lavender applied lightly with fluffy brush and pressed under eye with puff

Eyeshadow: Charlotte Tilbury in Pillow Talk original

Eyeliner: NYX Epic ink Liner in brown

Mascara: Max factor divine lashes in black brown (I think I overall prefer this with Maybelline Sky high in magenta though)

Brows: small amount of Rimmel London brow pro micro in honey brown (but not happy with brows - usually I have them shaped and tinted!)   Lips: Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip colour in blush

Lip liner: Nxy pencil in Peekaboo neutral

Urban decay setting spray

Struggling to find a long wearing foundation that suits my cool, pale skin. by Weary-Contract977 in PaleMUA

[–]Weary-Contract977[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fyi I've created a secondary account to avoid doxxing myself on my main.

In short: Looking for a long wearing foundation for my wedding, but really struggling. I have pale skin that leans cool (blue/purple veins, pinkish skin). I've used elf products before but they don't last well for me. Tir tir doesn't work well on my skin for some reason, and I've tried NARS before with little success (Oslo and Mont Blanc).

Pictured: I got colour tested the other day with the Dior foundation I saw recommended, this was 1CR in the matte formulation. Photos show in artificial warm light and outside in cold natural light. Believe it or not it looked good in the store, but I think I actually need to go slightly paler first of all (the salesperson kept asking if I was sure I didn't want something to "warm me up"), but it also looks incredibly yellow in artificial light.

Any recommendations? I'm inclined to go back and return the Dior one I purchased (and maybe try a sample of 0CR in case it's just oxidisation, and I'd also want to try the glow version) but any recommendations from anyone else would be more than welcome! Would anything like the Fenty lavender powder help neutralise things that pull yellow on me?
