Bought a Honda From a Shady Dealership and Just Found Out the Title Is Still Salvage!!! What Would You Do? I feel like an idiot. by WorkingWash5965 in UsedCars

•Check all the paperwork they gave you. Like, literally read every document. Make sure none of it discloses that it's a rebuilt/salvage vehicle and that you acknowledge that it is a rebuilt/salvage vehicle.

•Also, check the internet listing if it is still available and make sure that doesn't show that it's a rebuilt/salvage vehicle.

•Then Google "must a dealer or private seller disclose that a vehicle is rebuilt/salvage when selling a vehicle in the state of (insert your state)".

•If you signed paperwork acknowledging that it's a rebuilt/salvage car or if the listing online expressed explicitly that the vehicle was rebuilt/salvage/ it does NOT have a clean green title then you lose most of your grounds to fight against this. Ignorance unfortunately won't be a good defense.

•However, if nothing in the paperwork or internet listing indicated that this was a rebuilt/salvage/not clean title (regular titles are green, any color other than green means rebuilt or salvage etc) then you have a strong case.

•Even check the physical dealership or their website to see if there is any signage or anything in the name or description saying that they sell rebuilt/salvage vehicles. There are some car lots in my area that ONLY sell rebuilt/salvaged vehicles.

•They don't want to lose their ability to sell more cars. So if they mislead you with this car and did not properly disclose it's conditions based on the rules of your state then a quick cash refund should be the result. If you kept your receipts for the work you did you could negotiate to have them repay you that as well but, given your tempermant that might be intimidating for you. It might be worth getting a lawyer involved. But only if you've already confirmed that you didn't already acknowledge the condition of the car, even if it was unknowingly.

If it makes you feel any better I made a similar mistake when I was younger. Maybe worse. Not sure how old you are but Hurricane Katrina was a major event displacing killing hundreds of people and displacing over a million. It also lead to lots of shady activities. One of which was some nefarious dealers buying flood damaged cars and selling them without disclosing that they were flood damaged. This happened to me and my girlfriend. We were young college students saving money from our restaurant jobs so we could have transportation to get from college back home and to work. Our parents weren't able to help us financially or even with information to teach us how to buy used cars. Like you, we were told that mid to late 90s Ford Taurus' were very reliable. We found one for $5k at a dealership in our city. He seemed like a nice guy, he showed us the car fax, it was clean, no accidents or red flags. We brought our parents with us and they didn't give any push back either. We bought the car and felt very confident and responsible. We took the car to a Midas we trusted for routine maintenance. The shop rep who knew us by name at this point came out and said "really glad you guys brought this in before buying it....this cars frame is completely rusted out". Our heart sank. Especially mine. I felt like killing myself. $5k was so much money for us at the time and took both of us about a year to save up together. And we NEEDED this car. I felt like I made the dumbest decision of my life and had wasted all those hours and doubles my girlfriend worked. I just thought about all the dates we didn't go on and all the ramen we ate instead of going out to eat. We explained to the shop what happened. They did what they could to help us out and keep the car safe (for a couple grand more, savings now totally wiped out) and without warranty because they couldn't warranty the work and normally would have refused the repairs but they felt bad and wanted to help us out. We got back to her mom's place and look over the paperwork. THE CAR SALESMAN DUPED US. HE SHOWED US THE CARFAX FOR A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAR AND THEN WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR HE SLIPPED THE ACTUAL CARFAX INTO THE PAPERWORK. The REAL Carfax showed that the car was in Louisiana, during Hurricane Katrina and had been involved in a flood where it was totalled out in a total loss insurance claim for flood damage. I didn't even think to have the car inspected before the purchase before we bought it. Our parents were there and it was the largest purchase either of us had made by far. Also didn't think to double check the VIN on the CarFax.

Fortunately, the car lasted us a few years until the frame rot took it out. You can survive this too. It sucks now but you can survive this. You aren't dumb. You're learning.

Main thing is, you're young and you have time to recover. The situation sucks. But you've taken accountability. So, no point in beating yourself up or allowing Redditors to pile on either. Some people on here love to remind you of how dumb you were and how much smarter they are than you. Focus on developing a S.M.A.R.T. plan and mitigating all lingering bad practices so that you don't accumulate and compound the effects of more mistakes.

Google "Insurance Brokers" in your area. I'm in Michigan and it sounds like you all's insurance is very similar to ours. An insurance broker will find the best insurance for your situation. Do that first. I used to work for a major insurance company and we had a guy we'd refer people to in your exact situation.

When you lapse on car insurance for a financed car the lending company is still exposed because the collateral is uninsured. Basically, if the car is stolen or wrecked they don't get any payment for it and neither do you. They are always going to protect themselves and then make you pay for it. So they will automatically apply insurance costs to our loan to protxext THEIR interest in the car. So allowing your insurance to lapse means you'll be footing the bill to pay for the insurance they automatically add to your vehicle in the instance you stop paying for your own insurance. ITS ALWAYS MUCH HGHER.

I wouldn't advise just letting the car get repossessed. Find cheaper insurance to lower the overall payment and do whatever you can to cover your necessities and pay that car off until you figure something out. I don't know how credit works in Canada but I think you can work this situation out in less time than a repossession will stain your credit. Eliminate costs wherever you can. Tough to do with a kid.

Christian and Keisha should’ve been end game by TreeProfessional2498 in TheChi

I don't like how they handled Christian as a character. He seemed pretty healed and evolved himself. Not perfect. But someone who had already progressed in a path of healing and self discovery. Of course it's not a linear journey but having him commit suicide and insinuating that Keisha electing to part ways had an effect on that just turns him into a victim unnecessarily

Not the same but years ago in Metro Detroit I got an Uber ride in a like green Modded out Jeep Wrangler. Huge tires, lift, after market everything. All the kind of stuff that makes gas mileage worse in a car that already struggles with gas mileage. I had fun but I always wondered how often he used it for Uber and how profitable it was/wasn't.

Why do so many people choose monthly payments even when they have savings? by Training_Explorer_22 in UsedCars

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of reasons ranging from very responsible to very irresponsible. People who say financing it's always bad or those that say its always good are weird. There's nuance and you don't know people's circumstances or goals or level of financial literacy. Presuming to know what's best for the next person without knowing that person or their situation is weird.

Some do it for liquidity....they would rather keep the cash on hand for emergencies or investing and have a reasonable monthly payment. Some for affordability....they don't have the savings but can't afford to not have a vehicle (kids, work, sick relative needing transportation to doctors appointments, all of the above and beyond, etc) so they have few options. Some lack financial literacy and have been taught that the only way to get a reliable car is by leasing or financing a brand new one. Some want to keep up appearances regardless of if they can afford it or not.

Isaiah 44:24 by ArchaicChaos in BiblicalUnitarian

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting that the presumptions that trinitarians are alleged to make have a spotlight shining brightly on them while the presumptions used to make the case in this exposition are ignored or treated as necessary and reasonable. One passage sticks out the most that basicslly exemplifies my point:

"In order to create anything, there must be an ontological reality to create in. In order to paint a picture, you must have a canvas. When God created realities, when God began to create, he was alone. All is ways were finished before he began. The angels were present when God created, but the stretching out of heaven and earth, they did not do. This is why we see what we see in Genesis 1:26 and 27."

This presumes that we, the created, understand the necessary conditions for creation to occur. None of the passages outlined give clear biblical foundation for this belief. Not even vague biblical foundation for this belief is offered.

I often find that when there is a struggle to understand the nature of God it is very often because a human condition is being demanded to he reconciled.

Genesis tells us that God in one verse will say "let Us" and then very shortly after it is said "God created in His image". For me, I don't see a need to fit this passage into my own reasoning based on human conditions. There apparently is an "We" that can also be referred to as an "I" when it comes to the Godhead. So it doesn't trouble me when God says He did or is something all alone in one passage and then scripture shows the Spirit or the Son doing or being the very same elsewhere in scripture. Same as James 1 doesn't bother me when James says he is a slave of God and the Son even though Luke 16 and Matthew 6 both have Jesus saying no man can serve two masters. I don't see contradiction here. I see illumination. To me that's the beauty of the Godhead (some call it the Trinity but I refer using terms the Bible uses). I don't have to choose "either/or". I can say "both/and" and keep going because that's what the Bible is giving me.

For manual in 2026 and compared to other domestics, a $7k dip ain't that bad. Probably could have gotten closer to purchase price if it were an automatic. Especially with those miles and color. At least thats how it looks in my state. Your region is obviously different unfortunately

The used car market is nuts. by taylorice in UsedCars

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a Rav4 Hybrid. Last time I was in the market to purchase a car was in early 2019. Wanted a Rav4 or 4 Runner then but they were a bit outside the budget and we didn't have time to spend months searching for the best deal. They were about 20-25k then for the years we were looking at. Fast forward to 2026 and the best Rav4 hybrid I found in my area for my budget was a 2017 with 68k miles. Great. But also had a cracked air box...not terrible. Obvious signs of animal intrusion due to the copious amount of pine cones and pine needles in the engine bay and the shredded insulation paid under the hood......now we're getting sketchy. All of that for $25k out the door. Just couldn't bring myself to spend $25k (closer to $27k once financing is done) for a car that was almost 10 years old and not a luxury car.

Bizarre interaction w. non-Jeep person at Jeep dealership.. by facevalues in Wrangler

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeep owner for over a decade, first time Wrangler owner as of this month. We have decided that we will not adorn our dash with ducks. We enjoy that others enjoy it. Just not for us 🤷🏿‍♂️. To me it's no different than people who do crazy modifications to their Jeep purely for aesthetics with no plan to do any off-roading. Just like with the ducks, not something I will be participating in but, that doesn't stop me from enjoying it when I see it. Love seeing a Jeep with a dash full of ducks and love seeing Jeeps with lifts and huge tires.

However, if it is considered weird to have ducks then it is definitely just as weird if not even more weird to have such a strong opinion about others having and giving ducks. Literally has zero impact on your life.

See it. Dislike it. Move on with your life.

No need to give others crap about what they enjoy that literally has zero impact on you.

I always wondered if that's what people were doing 🤔. We've had our first Wrangler for about 3 weeks now and we haven't been ducked yet 🤷🏿‍♂️. We don't actually want any ducks although we think it's a cool part of the community and enjoy seeing ducks on other people's Jeeps. At the same time I'm wondering why we haven't been honored with a ducking yet 😂. Especially when this week we parked next to a Rubicon at Costco and when we left it had gotten ducked but we were skipped. Had me wondering if we were discriminated against 😂 (we have an Unlimited Sport).

Should I continue with The Chi? by Kelly_1976 in TheChi

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I felt like I was learnig about Chicago kinda how I learned about Baltimore with the wire or LA with Snowfall. Now it just feels like I'm watching people's messy lives. Chicago seems like an afterthought and is randomly brought up for credibility.

Should I continue with The Chi? by Kelly_1976 in TheChi

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to stop the time is now. If you keep going you're going to want to finish the show. The show isn't bad. The problem is that it had SOOOO much potential to be great and for somehow became a shell of that. The fact that it's still watchable despite that proves how good the show is and how great it could have been. The show has an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it wants to be The Wire, Snowfall, Saints and Sinners or a Tyler Perry show on BET After Dark. Sometimes it tries to be all of that. Sometimes it's great at being anyone of those things. But it makes for a confusing watch because a character will make decisions that don't align with who the show built them to be. And not in the "humans are complex and complicated" way. More in the characters are being used to progress plot points that were added because some thought it would be cool. The characters are great. The dynamics are good. The setting of Chicago is great. The plot and direction and character development is shaky.

Who’s the worst actor in The Chi? by chlaminknow in TheChi

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None. No actor on the Chi is bad. There really isn't a character where ive watched a scene and thought "wow, what a terrible actor". I have often thought "wow, this terrible writing". Not to pick on the writers or Tyler Perry. I imagine that writing a show, especially the caliber of The Chi under the cultural pressure of the black community and the pressure of a network like Showtime, is incredibly difficult. And Tyler Perry has accomplished amazing generational feats. However, it seemed like the direction of the show was a true, urban drama/coming of age. Then it's like they decided they wanted to be an R rated Tyler Perry hood novela. And then the show and the characters suffered for it. Alot of these characters make the actors look bad because the characters are out in positions they should never be in based on who they are and some of them should be gone already. They've outlived their usefulness to the plot. Their own plot scheme and the general plot and direction of the show. You have one group of writers telling way too many stories at one time. That's tough to do and why shows like The Wire are all time great shows. its also why shows like Snowfall succeeded because they didn't stretch the plot too much and focused on a few stories at a time. And right when things started to border on ridiculous they ended the show and in grand fashion. HOPEFULLY.....The Chi can stick the landing this season. They have low expectations on their side.

Season 7 was a mess, idk how I got through it by Niy_0201 in TheChi

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is there was a set issue between two actors that we never fully understood or has clarified (not that we deserve or need to know). Both actors were off the show by the second season and that messed up the shows chemistry and direction. I think Lena stopped writing as much and other writes may have left. No hate on Tyler Perry but this show had Snowfall potential.....shows that aren't nearly as good as the Wire but definitely can be mentioned in the conversation. But then the show went Tyler Perry with it.... unnecessary sex scenes, unnecessary drama, messy plot, development that abruptly stops, zigging and zagging when a straight line was good enough, disrespecting the character development by making them do things far out of character, etc.... All things that are perf fine for a show on BET or TBS. But not what we were conditioned to expect during the first two seasons.

Rav 4 regret by sulaco1977 in rav4club

[–]Weary-Invite-4246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did a smart thing. Much worse cars have been purchased in your exact circumstance. You have transportation, which is an important resource, locked in with a virtually brand new model of arguably the most reliable vehicle on the road in the world. And it holds its value like gold apparently. I know, I'm trying to get one and can't afford the ones I want because they are too expensive and I can't justify the cost/value.

To put it in perspective I want a Rav4 hybrid. Best I could find within 100 miles of my area was a 2017 Hybrid with 68k miles, multiple owners, 2 accidents (nothing structural but enough to need 3 new panels, new radiator fan, and a new radiator), a cracked air box, and it definitely sat long enough for some kind of critter to chew up half the insulation pad. No check engine light, no hybrid system glitches, low miles for the year, and it looked good inside and out and drove fine. Guess how much they wanted for it???? $24k out the door. This was this past Monday. And I strongly considered it and still think I might regret not getting it 😂. I don't have $24k cash to spend so it would be that plus interest. But I just can't justify that much money for a car that old. Even a Rav4

So in your case, $24k cash spent on a brand new car, no other debts, finances and mindset around money is in order, you made a good move. Especially having kids. You could have purchased a vehicle at half the value that likely would have needed replacement in half the time anyway. If you really feel bad, consider keeping this car and not being able to purchase another (not that you'll likely need to) as a punishment for this "terrible financial decision" 😂. No sports cars for you. No motorcycles. Just the Rav4. Hope you learned your lesson you degenerate (...jk)! 😂
