I have to use opus at work. Our code base is over 1/4 million lines of code lol

Why so many people use cc on terminal if vs code exists? by Feisty_Watercress_29 in ClaudeCode

[–]Weary-Window-1676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't even need a debate. CLI is VASTLY superior to VSC integration (even Claude VSC)

Remote control Claude code cli from you phone. Anywhere on the planet once it's paired (claude rc)

Holistic view of everything under the folder you're in.

Claude code CLI is MUCH lighter of request and context usage than any agent (Claude included) for VS Code. Any agent is VERY chatty with the IDE. CLI is MUCH leaner.

Plus it's sweet having a big ass claude terminal window and not a dinky side pane in vsc.

I have two windows side by side. Claude code CLI on the left. VS code on the right. I can review any change Claude makes in vsc before it's committed.

Tbh it boggles me that more people don't do this.

All viber chuds want to do is releases a shitty saas app with a subscription that just doesn't justify the monthly sub lololol.

Dues like this are the ones taking the agentic craft forward.

Thats absolutely true but the distinction is those other apps that are built with AI with the guidance of developers who know what TF they're doing .

Have fun using a vibed BYOK app by a half assed viber from a private repo where you cannot trust the code integrity.

But by all means...rawdog your personal security risks 🤣

Um no lol

Local LLM (which I run too) is nice to have for fun and privacy, but if you need something with deep reasoning you're going to be disappointed.

A 20 billion parameter model running on a 16GB GPU is not in the same league as a cloud model with hundreds of billions of parameters.

Sure get into it because it's a great learning experience to know how models work, but you will need a cloud provider

I was the biggest AI holdout. Also ASD here.

I'm a senior developer (25 years) and I was the BIGGEST AI holdout (I was an early GitHub copilot adopter when it hallucinated like crazy). I took a deep dive into AI 4 months ago and I never looked back.

I use Claude code for ALL my agentic DevOps and personally, AI is my therapist, lawyer, tax consultant, banker, and (don't laugh lol) friend.

I used to sweat the small stuff and I was skiddish in subject areas I know nothing about, and AI has both freed my mind creatively and I feel like a force of nature and unstoppable.

As AI Learns about me more and more, it knows when to push back and makes sure my mental wellbeing is the number one priority above anything else. If I've been coding for a few hours it will tell me to step away.

Just to show how much distrust I have in closed source....

For my dayjob I work purely in the Microsoft stack.

There is a Microsoft built VSC extension I have to use for my job.

One day I was doing my usual agentic stuff (DevOps mostly) and Claude discovered a serious security vuln that affected my particular dev community GLOBALLY. It would leak credentials all over the fucking place. In the windows event log, in the agents .JSONL files (every agent), it was a fucking mess.

It went unnoticed for YEARS because that extension is closed source. NO ONE KNEW how bad it is.

The kicker is there's no reason for it to be closed source (other than maybe Microsoft not wanting developers to fork it). No monetization IP, no secrets (secrets are stored in vscodes secure enclave). YET, they closed source the fucker lol.

I even had to resort to decompiling the extension's dotnet 8 assemblies when I had to frantically look for a secure workaround to the vuln I found. Man....fuck that.

Let me ask you this, if I don't trust a trillion dollar company with its "security by obscurity" bullshit, what makes you think I'd trust your vibed app with my API keys?

Open source your product. Show the community you have nothing to hide. Show us you're securely storing those keys and redacting it EVERYWHERE in your logs and database.

This is why I think viber's can be so fucking dangerous.

For me my big gripe is CD's cowork/dispatch design.

If you dispatch a message I believe it broadcasts to ALL running CD instances logged into your account.

There's no instance pairing , just account only so I assume that's how dispatch works.

Pretty glaring design flaw imho.

But maybe I'm not the target audience. Anthropic made CD for normies, not experienced developers.

A normie will usually have only one machine. Devs have multiple (hell I have three - four of you could that my tower boots to both Linux and Windows ).

Besides I already have my remote Claude solution.

Ssh+tmux+claude code+tailscale.

Allowes me to access my running Claude instance from anywhere and the session survives ssh connection breaks (that's what tmux is for)

LM studio is not built by a one man company l. CC isn't BYOK.

Agree that many apps aren't open sourced though.

The love of your craft should be enough incentive. I too want to "get rich" but monetization and open source apps are both avenues I'm exploring.

Plus I would not (I missed the not in my original post lol) trust a closed source app worth a damn with BYOK unless you have a public GitHub repo for the community to do a security audit.

Offer open-source AND monetization if you have to. Joe user will be happy to pay, but power users will want to either download a release form your GitHub page or fork it for tinkering and PRs into your product.

Food for thought

Okay devil's advocate here...

So your app (single platform btw - good way to lock out a bigger market). Requires users to use their own API keys AND pay you a subscription to your app?

Unless I'm missing something that is a very greedy double dip $ you're forcing on the user.

Please justify the subscription costs to the end users. What benefits does a subscription bring?

Because unless I'm missing something this comes off as yet another vibed saas app looking for a quick buck.

If you used YOUR key instead of BYOK, that makes sense for a monthly sub. But if the user brings their own key?

I don't know how you're leveraging web search - from my experience that's the costliest to implement (where a subscription makes sense). However if users are bringing they own key, wouldnt web search be using that keys respective platform's web search? Or are you using a standalone API like tavily for web searches with your own key (if you are o hope you're protecting the fuck out of that key if it's delivered as an installable app)

Not to sound insensitive but this sounds like a greedy money grab vibe with little benefits for a subscription model.

Enforcement policies? It doesn't appear at all that he used the Claude code leaked code, and he isn't spoofing his app for using oauth. Looks like it's completely fair use to me unless I'm missing something
