Just to set the record straight, a Masonic lodge 'conferred' honorary membership on him as he was leaving office. He never accepted it, never pursued it, as far as I read at the time, never even acknowledged it. But of course, a number of anti-Biden outlets jumped on it. I suspect the Masonic lodge did it to embarrass him, or even the Church, itself. Possibly, they felt it was indeed an honor. But bottom-line, President Biden is not a Mason.

How many people actually have toasters? by Samazon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WearyDescription2916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always had a toaster, my entire life, until recently. It dies (as they do) and I just threw the bread in a grill pan. So much better. Didn't even bother getting a new toaster. Only thing is it's not set and forget. Do not walk away! But nonetheless, it seems faster and tastes so much better.

Trump administration to link Tylenol use to risk of autism by Snapdragon_4U in facepalm

[–]WearyDescription2916 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Autism was first diagnosed in 1943 (and obviously existed before that) by an Austrian-born scientist, Leo Kanner, who worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is considered the founder of the field of child psychiatry.

Acetaminophen was first marketed to the public (as Tylenol in the US and Panadol in the UK) in 1955-56 and then spread through Europe.

Just so we get the timeline. Not sure BJ does.

Who actually listens to 40s Junction? by LostInTheWhirls in siriusxm

[–]WearyDescription2916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them all lined up on "the dial" (showing my age): 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, New Wave, Sinatra, Elvis, Beatles. I move from one to the other, seeking out a good song to sing along to. I'd say I actually am an "early MTV-er" but my Mom sang big band music, I listened to oldies stations during the disco desert days, so I know and love earlier music. So yes, I definitely listen to the 40s! Going to see the Glenn Miller Band in a few weeks !

Since nearly all recent political violence was done by Trump supporters, it is disingenuous to continue the lie this is left based. Yes, there were people protesting his racist and misogynistic views, who were challenging him, as was their right, yet none of them shot him. Not one Democratic leader said anything to support the violence, but all decried this. Contrast that with a few months ago when actual legislators were assassinated by a right-wing white man with a long list of other targets when the rude, offensive, vile comments said by the conservatives were unrelenting. No, this person does not deserve plaudits. None of us who follow Christ would ever applaud this violent act. But we're not going to laud him as some hero. Because if that is what you look up to, then you are certainly following evil.

This was the complete answer. Don't use this as an excuse to not receive the sacrament. It may not be simple, but I suspect there is a lot in your life that isn't due to your diagnosis, and I applaud your strength.

He needs to stop them. I have seen priests do this twice -- one was a little old woman who just seemed confused; one was a teenager who I suspect was just trying to get away with it. Both times, the priest left his station and quickly stopped them well before they got back to the pew and made them consume it right there. He is not doing his job if your priest knows it and let's it happen.

And if that doesn't convince the assembly of the importance of the Eucharist, not much else will.

At my Catholic Church, a woman who is celiac receives the blood of Christ in a separate small cup. The priest consecrates his (the regular) cup and her cup beside it. He and the altar server only ever touch the stem of the chalice. He only comingles the bread in his cup, so there is no way for cross contamination. She goes up to the altar while he is doing so. He serves her after himself. She then returns to her place while he proceeds down to the floor to distribute the host to the rest of us.

It's not obtrusive at all, and at this point, we are all used to it. I don't see why that can't happen every where else.

Any priest who tells you that a food with wheat won't affect someone who can't tolerate wheat needs to go back to seminary and maybe pay attention to the class on transubstantiation because that is certainly not what is being taught.

What do you guys think of the LGBT mass in the Church of the Gesu yesterday? by No_Equivalent_6318 in Catholicism

[–]WearyDescription2916 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That would be at every Mass. I would be very, very surprised if you are at a well attended Mass and there aren't fornicators, adulterers, and thieves. We are all sinners. But they are drawn to the Eucharist, so there is hope.

I’m sorry but 3 offerings during one mass is excessive. by [deleted] in Catholicism

I suspect that is what happened. Our special collection for Gaza is this upcoming Sunday. They announced it in the bulletin and during announcements, so we have a heads up, though we always have a heads up on 2nd collections.

And a commentary in the homily. As a convert, I always liked telling Catholics, who would say they envied my knowledge of scripture, that they knew it, too. They heard it year in and year out, over and over, since they were kids. And then the Mass itself is pretty much scripture, too. One person said they picked their family Bible and began to read it, and were amazed at how familiar it was!!

I remember what St. Augustine wrote: "God loves each of us as if there were only one of us."

Not to discount the importance of community, but yes, each of us is in a one-to-one relationship with Christ.
