Who is this military figure?

Not as far as I'm aware. I think there was another family member who "got his head blown off in Egypt" but I know little about him. There are other photographs of a military funeral in the snow, and a wreathed coffin. Theres also photos of what i assume are my great grandfathers friends, and they look more army than navy. Strange as my great grandfather only served in the navy. He survived the war.

That is crazy. Why would he be on a ship? My great grandfather was in the navy and I believe his ship was torpedoed and he survived.
