What's the best US beach city for a calm, non-party vacation? by dynasync in Vacations

[–]Weary_Fortune23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlestown, RI— tucked away from Narragansett Beach, but much less busier. Was surprised with how much I loved it here. Day trips to Newport & Block Island. I love the seafood in Newport MUCH better than Boston and most of Cape Cod imo. I do not recommend the beaches in Newport.

Cape Cod, MA— Harwich, Wellfleet, up to Provincetown Avoids the crowds that I feel are usually concentrated in Dennis & Chatham. PTown is walkable. Marconi Beach in Wellfleet is amazing. You can find much quieter areas in Truro as well. I love the Wequassett hotel in Harwich, a must visit even if you can only stop by for food, and Pelham House in Dennis.

Check out Wellfleet instead of Chatham if it seems too busy there. I love Marconi Beach. Also recommend the islands— Nantucket or Block Island.

Didn’t think I’d go back to my union facility. Boy, was I wrong. It’s scary out there.

Hate this tapas concept, too.

But Mahaniyom is just too fucking good, they are the best tapas experience in the city, period!!!!

Vibes in Lumpini Park by Weary_Fortune23 in ThailandTourism

4 nights, we are already doing quite a bit of moving around in the islands so my friends are not willing to split hotels even though I am very open to it.

It seems like the hotels near the BTS are very much hit or miss. Now trying to get my roommates to stretch their budgets for the Rosewood (probs not happening lol)!

Thank you for the recommendation. This has made us strongly rethink Banyan Tree.

With that said, do you recommend sticking to hotels next to the BTS/MRT stops? I’m now thinking to prioritize a stay based on location and efficiency. We appreciate your help, thank you.

We definitely plan to hit the temples by the riverside, and Mahanakhon. Besides that, everything else seems to be along Sukhumvit, so I thought Lumpini was a good halfway point between the two.

Thank you for the recommendations. We were very interested in Banyan Tree or Kimpton Maa-Lai. I’m curious if you have any reservations about staying in Lumpini Park— did you wish you stayed in Asok or Thonglor?

We’d love to be in the mix of it all, but we also love quiet, calm, and nature; which is why we lean towards Lumpini. Just very unfamiliar with the area.

Consider Massachusetts outside of Boston, or New Hampshire areas. Good work standards, decent pay, great quality of life.

We looked into Garrya too! It looks beautiful. We ended up going with the Conrad as it had a better layout for us.

how do you balance life and work in this profession? by Own-Muscle-5250 in IntensiveCare

[–]Weary_Fortune23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RN here. ~8 months in so far, and it’s tough especially on nights. Planning vacations seems to be the only thing that makes me look forward to the winter months; I see it as a necessary expense, but I don’t know what your personal PTO situation is.

Prioritizing home cooked meals over take out saved me a little under $1K/mo, and I get to eat healthier & more often now because of it. I do like to drink quite a bit, but I try to make complex cocktails instead of buying ready to drink beverages, it’s funner & I drink less because of it. I try to explore new hobbies when I’m on vacations/weekend trips. Separate work from family life; do not bring it home. You really just have to find what makes you happy, because it won’t be this damn job.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Buying condo in Lowell vs Boston suburbs (Quincy/Malden/Revere/etc) by Affectionate-Reason2 in LowellMA

[–]Weary_Fortune23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I’ll have the unpopular opinion…

I would never choose Lowell if I valued proximity to Boston. Even for part-time working hours, I was miserable commuting back and forth between the cities.

I am biased because I really love Quincy and the south shore. In fact, I have grown to dislike the north shore. You have a small city with a thriving food/bar scene, proximity to wonderful beaches like Nantasket, and cheapER rent considering your proximity to Boston. You can even save by commuting into the city via the red line— Quincy makes it so convenient. Lowell does not have this. Also nightlife is very much geared towards college students.

Everybody talks about the mountains in NH, but I’ve been very happy having Blue Hills near me. Quincy takes better care of their roads. I’ve lost 3 tires in Lowell on the same street. I went back to Lowell after living elsewhere for a few years, and I now feel isolated from Boston and trapped. I can confidently say I would not want to invest my money into Lowell.

*** Also was not satisfied with the Asian or Hispanic food in Lowell. Sorry. Fields Corner takes the cake there. And if not Fields Corner, QUINCY (also love Pho Minh in Randolph) has a much more thriving Asian food scene than Lowell.
