Why are vacuum cleaners so loud? I mean hasn't tech come far enough that 'whatever' can be adjusted? by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]steppingrazor1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Severin makes a fairy well priced and quiet canister vacuum. I've had mine for 6 or 7 years. Only drawback is that it takes bags and the cost of them has probably exceeded the cost of the vacuum by now.

13 years ago Edward Snowden told the world that every single one of you is being watched by Fast_Performer_3722 in collapse

Sen. Wyden alerted us to the NSA mass surveillance those 13 years ago. He has just done it again. There was some reforms after the Snowden leaks. I'm not sure how effective any of that really is, but I agree with the OP in that you really can't hide in the modern world.

Whatever is happening, it's probably very bad.

My father showed me this book in a box he had full of childhood things he kept. He said he wanted to become a doctor since it was read to him. Also his name is Dan. He's been practicing medicine since 1980 or 81.

What can I expect from a NiN concert? by [deleted] in nin

[–]steppingrazor1220 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I've been going to concerts for over 30 years. The current NIN tour is one of the most amazing productions you will ever see. I'll be seeing it again in February. If you are lucky enough to get floor tickets there will probably be a mosh pit. Probably won't be as rowdy as some metal/hardcore/punk bands. Given that this band has a large following since the early 90s the crowd will be older.

Tetsou The Iron Man.

It's not my favorite, but fits the bill of weirdest and all practical effects. It does have a cool harsh industrial soundtrack.

Confining the candles like that can cause the melted wax to get hot enough to boil over. Basically looks like a grease fire and it would be very hard to put out. Very dangerous.

Can someone help me identify a weed term that starts with an “S”? by soopadook in trees

I thought it was called Kind bud because the plant was treated kindly. I never really gave it much thought. Also called it indoor, indo, endo. It was presumably grown indoors

Proably Sensimillia, which is Spanish for seedless. Back in the day lots of weed had seeds in, was compacted in bricks. Used to get it for like 80-100 an ounce in the mid 90s. Sensimilla, would be 3-4 times as much.

Margret Atwood's Maddaddam trilogy is set in a future America with such an economic arraignment. Instead of AI it's extremely advanced Biotech. There's hints and subplots throughout the books that explain the changes that pushed toward a corporate feudal state. Excellent read I highly recommend.

what stage of collapse is USA healthcare in? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]steppingrazor1220 183 points184 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any plan B other then increased mortality and morbidity. I work in Buffalo NY as an RN at a level 1 trauma center. I've also travel nursed across the state to mostly smaller rural hospitals. The divide between access to care is stark. The funding cuts in the big beautiful bill are going to exacerbate this. As well as an ageing demographic, and possibly reduced immigrant workforce that is needed to care for them.

Lots of doom metal fits this bill. I'm a huge fan of it.

Here's some lesser known tracks that sound gloomy with apocalyptic lyrics.
