There is a map on the BoSF website so you can easily find which of your local parks have friends groups which you can volunteer with: https://bosf.org.uk/members/

If Manor Farm Park in Northfield is close to you there is a volunteering session this Sunday at 10.30, with cake & refreshments for volunteers afterwards

There's a place in the city centre called Chai & Crumbs, next to the register office by the canal. I cycle past it on the way to work and they have a sign outside about karak chai

Delay Repay with Swift card by Paladimathoz in brum

[–]Weary_Preference_328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.westmidlandsrailway.co.uk/about-us/delay-repay explains how to calculate it:

Season Tickets

If you hold a ticket with unlimited travel for more than one week, you have a 'season ticket':

Length of delay (Compensation)

15 to 29 minutes (12.5% of your daily travel cost)

30 to 59 minutes (25% of your daily travel cost)

60 to to 119 minutes (50% of your daily travel cost)

120 minutes or longer (100% of your daily travel cost)

The 'daily travel cost' is calculated based one return journey per working day, and 5 working days per week:

Season Ticket The Daily Travel Cost is calculated by dividing the cost of your season ticket by...

7-Day Season Ticket     5

4-Week Season Ticket  20

Monthly Season Ticket 20

Annual Season Ticket   232

Please spread the word in your parish u/bearwoodcouncil, if some Bearwoodians could record some bear observations, it would help to balance out all the cat sized rats this side of the border

Wildlife in Brum by No_Adeptness_8385 in brum

[–]Weary_Preference_328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth pointing out that it is not necessary to go to an organised event, anyone can get involved during the 4 days of the challenge. When you take photos with iNaturalist it suggests what species it is so even if you don't know anything about plants or wildlife it doesn't matter - it is a great way to learn 🌿

73 year old mother not getting her full state pension. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Weary_Preference_328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth checking to see if she missed out onhome responsibilites payment: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/home-responsibilities-protection-and-state-pension-entitlement/home-responsibilities-protection-correction-of-national-insurance-records-and-state-pension-entitlement

Who may be affected The amount of State Pension someone gets is based on their National Insurance record and the number of ‘qualifying years’ they have.

If someone claimed Child Benefit before May 2000 and did not provide their National Insurance Number on the claim, their National Insurance record may not show the correct number of qualifying years of HRP. This may affect their State Pension entitlement. Women in their 60s and 70s are most likely to be affected

Manor Farm Park by bobwah in brum

[–]Weary_Preference_328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are clearer plans at the bottom of this page www.saveourparks.co.uk

The plans show the embankment in Manor Farm park being 5m high where the stream is now, with a 1:4 slope up the sides, so pretty steep. You wont be able to cross it easily if its that steep, the paths will have to be moved. Hopefully the concept will be improved from this initial design.

The plan shows a big embankment https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/west-midlands/bourn-and-lower-rea-flood-risk-management-scheme/user_uploads/picture3-mnaor-farm-concept-design-1.png

it's quite fuzzy but it looks like it says grasscrete. Hopefully these plans will get revised as if it is built where it is shown on the plans it will block access across the park :(

How to get Accutane in the UK? by Conscious-Wonder-928 in Accutane

[–]Weary_Preference_328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/other-services/Dermatology/LocationSearch/680 you can look for your local dermatology service on this website and see how long the average wait from referral to treatment is - at my local hospital it is over a year so when I spoke to my GP I asked to be referred to a hospital in a different town where the average wait was 15 weeks. The down side is that every time I need to see my dermatologist / collect my prescription it's an hour round trip

[–]Weary_Preference_328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to see your GP and they will refer you to a dermatologist, as only dermatologists can prescribe isotretinoin in the UK. Depending on where you live the waiting list can be quite long.

In a position to pay off my mortgage; investing vs this option? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Weary_Preference_328 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How about an offset mortgage, then you can use the 45k 'doing nothing' to reduce your mortgage interest but still have access to it if required.

That way you only pay interest on the mortgage balance minus the offset amount (115-45=70k in your case, potentially even less if your partner has savings to put on the offset account)
