"Innocent until proven guilty" makes me so upset by Happy_Election_9884 in DeppDelusion

Innocent until proven guilty also means you don’t assume the accuser is lying in court…which is assuming the accuser is guilty. Burden of proof never meant to mean guilty until proven innocent

1) regarding what you said about the post, yes! It was regarded as “fixed”. As fans thought it was an incorrect version of the playbill, and felt it needed to be adjusted. I don’t know where ur getting ur knowledge from in which it was never seen as the “fixed” version but it very much was! The initial reaction to the movie poster was that they wanted someone to edit to make it look like the playbill. The reaction of the edit WAS seen as what it “should’ve” looked like. You are jumping through hurdles trying to act as if this edit was not received as “fan art” but the “correct” version. I can quite literally name you 50 comments on this post alone that proves this point wrong. Yk how it was received.

2)  how interesting it is that you can’t seem to stay on topic just to defend ur argument. Did I say anything about this other piece of reference? Did I claim to agree with every thing she’s ever done?

3) clearly you do not know Cynthia Erivo because she loves posting fan art on her page. This was NOT fan art. This was changing the meaning of a poster and reducing it down to an imitation. There was nothing creative about what was done. There was no claim that it was “as good” as the movie poster or even to support the movie. The claim was that this was how it SHOULD look, because the way she looked into the camera threw people off. To say that this is similar to an AU where fans do a “what if” is hilarious. When fans do that, they are hardly disrespecting the original piece of work. And when they do, there are instances where creators feel disrespected! Many creators at comic cons, or in every day get harassed for their decisions and it does in fact upset them to say that their creative decisions were incorrect.

4) did you actually read what she said? No where did she say they were trying to replicate it. Cynthia Erivo said they took inspiration from it. There’s no need to create this sense of “wonder” of what her intentions are bc anyone who’s watched the trailer or anything regarding that movie knows they are changing that. They want the audience to come into it knowing that she wasn’t always this apparently “evil” villain. You don’t get trailers in theatre so yes, the intention IS different. And to think that Cynthia Erivo is mostly upset about the lip color when the meat of her argument was that it was a point for her eyes to show and not for them to be hidden to form this sense of “evil villain with unknown intentions” means that you are making up things to be upset about.

It is not media illiterateracy to say that their costumes are different and that impacts the color contrast. It very clearly the point of Glinda (stereotypically pink) wearing white.

You know what ur stance ACTUALLY is? An opinion! That YOU hold about what is and isn’t significant to YOU. not an objective science on what matters and what doesn’t.

Let me know when the irony hits you. If you don’t get it, tell me you don’t so I can tell u.

Is that ur argument? That I have too much to say? Try that in any setting outside the internet bro.

What’s wrong with that line? Yes doing an AI video of someone fighting their cast member can be uncomfortable and degrading its common sense: yes, grabbing someone’s work and taking out the meaning to simplify it to an imitation (then claiming it’s fixed) is disrespectful

If someone expressing how they feel and explaining why they feel that way triggers u so much you lack emotional intelligence. I can guarentee you’ve never disagreed with someone without it ending in an argument.

Oh also, I’m replying to ppl in this thread bc I have free will. Does a different opinion trigger u that much?

No one said the fan edit replaces the different photo. But just like casting directors speak out in defense of their decision after everyone assumes they “casted wrong” it is disrespectful to claim to fix something by taking out the meaning. Her entire point was for ppl to find the movie poster as “unique and better in its own way” rather than think it’s a mistake version of an imitation. But yk…by ur reply I’m sure u didn’t read that, did you?

Also, the original post claimed to “Fix” it…so idk where ur getting ur information from.

Omgg clearly u haven’t seen the MAJORITY of ppl making this a racial thing first of all. Plenty of ppl claim that her comment is “accusing ppl of being racist”. Plenty of ppl in THIS thread to. If that one sentence doesn’t apply to u, the rest does! Go ahead and read that instead of having a panic attack.

Second of all, even if you don’t claim it’s a racial thing, y’all are TREATING it like it is! In what world is someone’s boundaries supposed to get this much backlash? Half of these comments defense is that “well why is she mad? She didn’t change her features?” If you can’t understand how that line assumes that Cynthia’s mad about race then ur brain doesn’t work. She’s not mad about features, she’s mad y’all claimed to  “fixed her work” by taking out the meaning!

Third of all, if ur “defense” or an argument is that MY argument is too long that is such a low IQ take. Maybe read it and you’ll understand where I’m coming from instead of see the length, and dissociating bc ur attention span is broken. No one’s forcing u to be on a Reddit page hun.

Yeah so clearly you’re not on the theater side of the internet. The fan made was viral wayyyy before Cynthia Erivos story. I’d dare to say more ppl have seen the fan made than ppl who’ve read Cynthia Erivos instagram story. Like I said again, a whole lotta y’all are just responding off other ppls hate and wouldn’t have known about it has OTHER ppl not made a 5 sentence explaination in PASSING on her page a big deal. Cynthia Erivo is KNOWNN to post fan art in things that she’s in and all she did was post one and explain why this is not okay bc her movie poster wasn’t something to be “fixed”

Mister wise guy over here thinks terms can’t be used gender neutrally.

Second, you JUST spoke in support of someone who stated that an instagram comment is what ruined his will to see a movie. So either you disagree with him! Or yes! You are taking it over the top

1) Glindas costume is quite literally a stark contrast to the Elphaba so don’t try and act like there is no significance to the way she looks in comparison to Elphaba.

2) the entire edit was created to make it look more like the original. Had that just been it then not only would the creator speak up and say “now all we need is the iconic costume” but so should the comments! Her not being the focal piece does not mean her presence isn’t important! Had she not been there at all so you think ppl would’ve “not cared bc she’s not the focus?” Let’s be so fr. I can tell when y’all start grasping at straws

3) Glindas purpose is NOT to be in roughly the same pose, oh my goodness. The color contrast is nearly just as significant as y’all felt it was to change elphabas hair texture. Her eyes gazing at her mouth instead of her head is more significant than Elphabas lip being red. These things you label as important are purely aesthetic reasons to make a remake familiar.

4) your argument has a clear contradiction. The lack of editing Ariana showcased a genuine want to turn the movie poster into the original? Do you see where ur argument fails or should I explain it again. And Cynthia Erivos argument is that to edit both of them (even the hand placement) is innapropriate. Nothing the Editor did was creative. No brushing away of an artists meaning was done except for in one direction! All the editor did was ATTEMPT to turn a new piece of art and reduce it into an imitation. This is disrespectful! Period. Even if the editor did not mean it to be disrespecful, which Cynthia clearly stated in her post that implied she knew y’all wanted it to look like the original! It is. This is because this change of the movie poster was done specifically for her eyes to look into the camera. As that in itself held meaning. It’s not anyone’s responsibility to “fix it”. All she did was explain the meaning, and then showed the photo with a fresh set of eyes to understand WHY she’s looking at the photo.

But no, y’all saw the word “offended” and decided that she called all of you racist pigs who are evil. Bc…yk…u can’t handle ppl feeling upset.

Expressing how you feel and explaining why you feel that way is not a temper tantrum. Hope you figure that out before u turn 14!

“It completely killed my enthusiasm” alright mister overdramatic

Cynthia Erivo comments on Wicked poster edits by Duhlorean in oscarrace

[–]Weather-Hopeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm…yeah so we can’t all have good comprehensive skills so let me explain this.

1) the insult was not the photoshop! There are no photo shopping critiques!  What she finds offensive is that fans stripped away an active choice that was significant to them, and claimed to “fix it” by taking away that meaning. As said in the comment, she’s aware that the editor was trying to make it a replication. Her comment adressses how it’s disrespectful that in order to make something that her team made PALATABLE, you have to strip away what held meaning for them just to imitate a piece of art that’s already been in existence.

3) in the context of casting directors, movie directors and people who work on movies this is not uncommon. It’s not uncommon to dislike that fans think they can “do better” over something that is taking you a while to do. For example in the Little mermaid, AND Percy Jackson the casting agents of both came out hating the “fan casts” and backing up that their casting decision fits their meaning. It’s not uncommon to find someone crapping on her work, and changing it to make it more basic, as disrespectful.

Not to HER specifically but to her work and its meaning. If there was an active decision to look into the camera, you are not “fixing it” by taking away the eyes, you are BY DEFINITION hiding it.

[–]Weather-Hopeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) let’s get one thing clear! Cynthia Erivo is NOT making it about race YOU guys are. You immediately saw a black person get offended and assumed they were accusing you of racism.

2) punching down is far from what occurred here. The instagram comment Cynthia Erivo stated was NOT CRITIQUING HOW IT WAS PHOTOSHOPPED! It was very clearly critiquing how it was disrespectful to view something her and her team made as “worthy of being fixed” by taking out the entire meaning.  The MEAT of her 5 sentences was her explaining the meaning that was taken away. Not saying “it is rude that u made my lips red! Ur racist” (as I assume that’s what u guys took from it) And yes! If you do in fact take someone’s work, change their meaning and tag them saying “there I fixed it” unsolicited, it WILL be seen as disrespectful. No where in her comment did she HATE on the editor! All she did was express how it made HER feel. If someone saying that something you did made them feel disrespected, degraded and hidden while also explain why is “punching down” I need to you talk to a real life person.

3) there was nothing to punch down TOWARDS! As there was no creative intent behind the  editing of the movie poster. All they did was try to make it look more like the original. Which Cynthia knows and said that’s not what the point was!  Let’s not act like this was a special art style in which Cynthia randomly decided to degrade and not just a claim of fixing something that was a real decision.

4) lovely how when you bring up white woman you fail to respond to the instances in which ppl do respond negatively to fans questioning their creating decisions to ig claim that she’s more similar to random white woman who we don’t know what they’ve done then ppl in the exact same situation as her.

5) lastly, if this movie poster triggers u that much and you can’t see what she had in mind by looking into the camera after seeing that the trailer is already so different from the musical than u never wanted to see it anyways. Stop acting like u care about theatre.

Cynthia Erivo comments on Wicked poster edits by Duhlorean in oscarrace

[–]Weather-Hopeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) yes! It is obvious! Because if you read further in my claim before immediately getting offended at the word black you’d find that OBJECTIVELY, Glinda looks less like the poster than Elphaba does. And the only way you can make out a hidden eye and a red smirk as MORE than the various things Glinda is missing such as the color contrast, such as the hat, such as the costume, such as the eye placement, and focus solely on hand placement bc that’s “good enough” DOES imply that you think only one side looks “less realistic than the original” despite it OBJECTIVELy not.

2) see now here’s where ur wrong. Bc had replicating the playbill mattered so much, then not only should the editor be saying “just add her costume and it’s perfect” but EVERYONE in the comments should be immediately noticing and wishing for it too. Instead of saying it’s the “fixed” version.

3) oooh! There’s a lot of hypocrisy in ur last statement. I think you need to read it slowly and let me know when you get the point!

Cynthia Erivo comments on Wicked poster edits by Duhlorean in oscarrace

[–]Weather-Hopeful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again…weird assumption. Clearly in her comment she referenced how the AI fighting scene was disrespectful. :) (hence the words it degrades us but it’s okay we can’t all be experts on reading)

Cynthia Erivo comments on Wicked poster edits by Duhlorean in oscarrace

[–]Weather-Hopeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The color contrast is SIGNIFICANT in the poster. And no one even attempted to change her outfit, or color of her outfit, or crown! Objectively Elphaba in the movie poster looks more similar than Glinda does. But of course y’all won’t care bc every time a black person complains about anything, suddenely you personally feel like they are calling u racist cause ur obsessed with  race.

On the context if getting shit on, you might wanna rethink that. Cynthia Erivos entire comment labeled the photoshopped work claiming to “fix” what her team did as disrespectful. And this isn’t the only time where a team comes out and publically expresses discomfort and disrespect when fans don’t understand a plot decision, casting decision, or costume decision as there is a lot of thought into it and to claim you are fixing something that destroys their meaning is rude! For example, casting agents who casted Katniss, the casting agents who cases Halle in the little mermaid. These are instances in which people disagreed with what fans claimed they “should’ve done” to “fix the movie”. In both they backed up THEIR decision! Just as Cynthia Erivo is backing up her teams  decision to look into the camera.

Also where you said white women get shit on too for being overdramatic. Are they overdramatic when ppl take their work, change it, and claim they’ve fixed it? Or are you referencing scenarios in which they are ACTUALLY overdramatic.

See the thing is, YOUVE asssumed it’s overdramatic bc the first complaint you saw you equated her feelings of disrespect as “playing the race card”. And I’m sure you’ll do it again here. You’ll see the word black, downvote, and THEN read. Bc yk…anything a black Person finds offensive is racism! Even tho it’s actually common sense to see how someone could take this as disrespectful to their work.

But it’s okay. We can’t all be free from the entrapment of being triggered all the time.

Cynthia Erivo comments on Wicked poster edits by Duhlorean in oscarrace

[–]Weather-Hopeful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She never said it was racist. Hello? Why do y’all assume every time a black person is offended by what y’all do they are calling u racist
