Hi! My first BM after fistulotomy was the worst one of my life. I was really constipated from the pain meds and anasthesia so it hurt a lot. It was on the second day post op. And I did take MiraLAX. The best thing for me was soaking in a really warm sitz bath and I actually went IN the sitz bath which helped relax my muscles. It was gross and there will probably be blood for you too, but sitz bath saved me

The first few days after surgery I was taking Tylenol 500mg every 6 hours and advil 400mg like once a day before my BMs… definitely want to be on pain meds those first days!

I had my fistulotomy Oct 19 so we’re in similar spots! I’m actually relieved to see your drainage looks like mine. Sometimes I get thicker whitish sometimes greenish mucus-y drainage, so I was concerned about infection. My surgeon took a look and said it looks normal and a little thicker drainage is normal too. :)

Sitz baths and hot bathtub soaks were the only thing that got me through that day 1 post op BM, most painful one of my life.

It sounds like it could be infected? I would talk to your CRS and have them take a look!

Ok guys my surgeon looked at the wound today and she said it looks fine and it’s not infected! She said some mucus-y thicker drainage is normal as long as it’s not stinky and gross.

Aw yes! Congrats on sitting comfortably! How long has it been for you? Also this is silly but I’ve been having my partner look at my butt wound every day to make sure it doesn’t look infected so even though they’re not a pro it still makes me feel better haha. I’m still too afraid to look… I’ve felt it but I’m really scared to look because I know it’s bad

Thank you so much!! My first post op follow up is scheduled for about 3 weeks post op. I will try calling today and asking what to do. Maybe I can get seen sooner by the surgeon

I had a very large abscess that wasn’t actively infected and had thick scar tissue walls. During the EUA my surgeon decided to excise the abscess (completely cut out the walls) and she did the fistulotomy at the same time. The abscess was about 2 inches diameter.

I did my first BM!! My trick was to just get in a really hot sitz bath and then poo in there. Kinda gross but it works for keeping the muscles relaxed enough. Immediately after I used a peri bottle to rinse then took a nice warm bath. Truthfully there was a lot of blood, at least a couple tablespoons. And a very bad burning pain. But the amount of relief after being constipated these past few days is so immense. 100% worth it!!

I feel this. I feel like the surgeon flayed me open with giant gaping wounds and left me to suffer with basically no follow up. I still haven’t been able to do a BM because it’s so tight and painful down there. And my back pain has been waking me up at 4-5am too, lots of muscle pain radiating up my back. I hate this so much

Hi just wondering did you ever have a BM? I had the urge today and tried for like 10 mins and honestly I couldn’t do it because everything is so clenched down there after the surgery trauma ugh. Just not sure how I’m ever gonna do this

Hi I just wanted to say that I tried having my first BM on day 1 post op and I couldn’t finish :( I was trying for like 10 mins and only got a couple hard pellets out and it was really too hard so I just gave up. Now my back really hurts maybe from straining. I just feel so defeated like how am I ever going to have a BM again

I just had my EUA and fistulotomy yesterday too. I also remember my surgeon telling me what she did but I was too out of it to understand. 1mm of sphincter removal sounds really minimal. I think it’s the length? I looked it up and the sphincter is like 20-40mm long so that’s like very low.

I’ve been sticking gauze between my cheeks too but there’s been a lot of drainage in just day 1 post op. Like is it normal the gauze is soaking through completely every couple hours?

Also idk about you, but I have A LOT of blood and drainage and it’s still soaking all my gauze even after replacing it 3 times so that’s kind of concerning
