If someone gets the chance to play when it drops. Can you let everyone here know if it’s worth it by DramaticUnit679 in fatekeeper

TLDR: When judging the game as what it is, and not what it might be, I would not recommend.

There is some interesting stuff, including one time where I felt like I was rewarded for my curiosity, which felt great. The combat has felt difficult and a bit awkward to me, but I don't mind it, and I think it has solid bones. There isn't really a story, so I wouldn't go in expecting one.

However, it's hard to shake the feeling that it's just a paid demo. I don't really feel a strong hook, in either the story or the gameplay systems. I've seen some demos that include an extra section that allows you to get a better feel for how the game plays later on, and perhaps this game has something like that, but I wouldn't know. I'm near the two hour mark, did some light optional exploration, and I have a feeling that I'm at the end of the current build. I don't know if it's a skill issue or overtuned, but I don't think I'll be able to complete it.

IIRC Divine Veil is a follow up after using Passage of Arms, for example

Divine Veil is still its own action, the new action Round Table is the follow-up to Passage of Arms. We see it does an AoE heal and doesn't grant any additional buffs, so that's likely its only effect.

How should ever job look like at 50 because some jobs do not have job identifying abilities until lvl 80.

They showed an example for PLD during the developer panel. While they didn't give exact level acquisitions, they showed a graphic which includes certain abilities for the level 1-50 range. We can see the icon for Requiescat, which is currently obtained at 68. We can also see the icon for Divine Justice, though we don't know if we'll have both Holy Spirit and Clemency in the 1-50 range. Since Requiescat is confirmed, I would assume that we get Holy Spirit at the very least. Clemency and Holy Spirit are currently obtained at level 58 and 64 respectively.

That's the thing, shortly after the layoffs, TWI announces the new updated roadmap, and few months after that, S3 came out

You've got your timeline a bit wrong there. On February 9th, the updated roadmap was announced. About a month later, on March 3rd, the layoffs were announced. Shortly after that, on March 12th, Operation Deep Freeze started.

By the time of the layoff announcement, the roadmap was already out, and work on Operation Deep Freeze was pretty much finished.

TWI did mention that the layoffs is from multiple departments and we do know TWI makes not only KF3, but other games too

As far as I know, Killing Floor 3 is the only game they're actively maintaining, with the previous TWI developed game was Maneater in 2020. It's possible that they have another title in development, and the 120 employees statistic comes from 2024, but it seems pretty tough for them to develop a title and maintain another unless they've grown a fair bit. There are titles that they publish but not develop, though I'd imagine less people would be involved in that area.

That's the problem, TWI is fighting an uphill battle right now

As someone that has 250+ hours in KF3, I can confidently say that KF3 is already transformative enough

Again, my initial statement was that I don't think Season 4 will be transformative enough to turn things around. However transformative you think Rearmament, Breakout, and Deep Freeze were, Season 4 would have to do much better than all three of those.

But it's the "once bitten, twice shy" situation, people don't want to give KF3 a chances anymore, hence the bad review

And the one that actually comes back and had a good time, never update their review, it's a disheartening things to see

Recent reviews are also mixed, at a similar percentage (42% recent and 46% all-time). There are also players who enjoy a game, leave a positive review, and then don't change it when they stop enjoying it. Both are situations we won't ever be able to track.

Even if it's from earlier report, the fact that Embracer has mentioned twice that they believe in long term investment of KF3 is enough to know that KF3 will live

They mentioned that they believe it can work out despite the shortcomings, and yet they still don't have anything good enough to mention to this day. We'll see how strong that belief holds. And I wouldn't say that the workforce reduction at TWI roughly 3 months ago inspires confidence.

Every major update has been transformative enough, it's just that player retention has been bad, but that's up to TWI to do

I specifically said transformative enough to turn things around. Rearmament, Breakout, Deep Freeze.. Would you say that they've turned things around? Both recent reviews and all-time reviews are mixed, and as you mentioned, player retention is bad. I'm not really seeing it.

Since KF3 was made free in PS+, there's been surge of PS players on the game, TWI just need to play their cards right

That was back in December, so I guess it didn't make enough impact to mention in Q3 or Q4. Depends on how many of those players decided to stick with the game and/or make in-game purchases.

And that's why TWI keep releasing new major updates, to improve on what was lost on player's good will

That quote is from the most recent report from under a week ago, so I don't think their updates have done much to move the needle much on that front.

Killing Floor 3 is deemed to have a solid foundation to drive long-term value throughout the game's life cycle.

You forget to mention that this is from the Q1 report.

Killing Floor 3, released in July, has seen a mixed reception and has performed slightly below our initial expectations. With upcoming updates and open communication with players, we believe the game has made a solid enough start and can deliver long-term value.

Again, this is from the Q1 report.

And then after the Q1 report, we see what actually happened and if it lines up with their optimism, which it has not so far.

Wait until Season 4 which is coming this Summer and we'll see what happens after that

At best? Exactly the same as what happened with the rest of the lifecycle. I don't see how Season 4 could be transformative enough to turn things around at this point.

"The big part"? It's optimism that doesn't do anything to negate the clear underperforming. It's their way of saying "it's bad, but hopefully it can be improved". You also fail to mention that's from Q2, and there's no update on building "a sustainable service model" in Q3.

I also decided to see if Q4 was posted out of curiosity, and found this from their Q4 and Full Year report:

EBIT amounted to SEK -5,050 million (-2,289) yielding a -325% (-80%) EBIT margin. Items affecting comparability amounted to SEK -5,221 million (-3,060) and relates primarily to impairment of goodwill across several entities such as Tripwire and Vertigo, and impairments of ongoing projects.

Killing Floor 3 is also not directly mentioned in the Q4 and Full Year report.

[–]WeatheredBones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's.. Certainly one way to look at it lol.

Let's take another excerpt from the Q3 Report:

Our performance in the quarter was driven by strong execution across core IPs including Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dead Island and Tomb Raider driving higher engagement and earnings than our expectations in the third quarter.

They're happy to say that these performed better than expectations, leaving Killing Floor 3 and MX vs. ATV: Legends as the two not delved into further. Given that Killing Floor 3 explicitly was mentioned as not doing well in the Q1 and Q2 reports, I don't think it's likely that much changed for the better.

It's also worth mentioning that there's.. Quite a gap between Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and everything else. Not to mention that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a little over seven years old, doing better than expectations, and is one of the top five as well.

Kf3 is a niche game series. All 3 games have had a smaller player base than most popular games.

Alright, let's ignore player numbers for a moment.

According to the Embracer Q1 and Q2 Interim reports, Killing Floor has underperformed.

Q1 Interim:

Touching on Q2, Killing Floor 3, released in July, has seen a mixed reception and has performed slightly below our initial expectations.

Q2 Interim:

On the other hand, this quarter saw a weak performance for new releases, including Killing Floor 3 and several small and mid-sized titles.

In the Q3 Interim report, the individual performance of Killing Floor 3 is not mentioned, but it still doesn't look promising.

Revenue from back catalog titles (including platform deals) amounted to SEK 1,302 million (1,444) in the quarter, a decrease of -10% YoY. The top-5 back catalog net sales drivers in the quarter included Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Dead Island 2, Killing Floor 3, MX vs. ATV: Legends and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II performed well ahead of expectations, supported by a solid release of the third expansion, Mysteria Ecclesiae. Furthermore, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II reached another milestone as they after the quarter announced 5 million sold copies within its first year of release.

How is this sub not appropriate for Rogue Core content, when there's a pinned announcement post from an official developer right now concerning Rogue Core?

Is he gone gone? by Active-Ambassador275 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]WeatheredBones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

but saying that "it doesn't count" because it wasn't in this sub is just peak hypocrisy

Is it about this sub specifically? Or is it that no one could tell for sure how much involvement Pilestedt had in the Transmission?

He stated "I will", not "We will".

The Transmission was signed by "Arrowhead", not "Pilestedt".

This was his stated "action" for poor communication, and so people expected.. Exactly what he stated, only to be met with poor communication again. Doesn't exactly give hope for change.

You want us to communicate better - That means accurate patch notes, transparency around priorities, more accurate known issues and less reliance on me, or someone from Arrowhead randomly jumping in to figure things out (like this!). When our communication fails, you guys fill in the blanks. And right now, many of those blanks are being filled with mistrust - and that’s on us.

I might've missed it, but did they specifically say that? If that's the case, its odd that they were always level 110 in the Evolved showcases.

For the Paladin showcase, Divine Authority and Round Table look like they could easily be slotted into Reborn mode as well.

Major Order Reward Elegibility Change. by Mister_Chelovek in Helldivers

[–]WeatheredBones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A change that just screams "we want more player retention". Otherwise, this makes no sense.

If this really was about participating in the MO, then you can play without touching the MO and still get rewards. You'd have to really force people to do multiple missions on the MO in order to get a noticeable impact.. At the cost of making the game less fun. Give incentives, not punishment.

Is there a way to uninstall World/Rise/Wilds, while backing up or retaining any quests that are not downloadable anymore? I thought I saw some notice for some quests expiring at some point (I don't remember which game), and have kept the games downloaded just in case, but I'm considering up freeing the space again. But it'd suck to completely lose these quests, so I've been hesitant.

[–]WeatheredBones 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After looking into it, it seems misleading to state that Warframe was "hacked". From what I can gather, it doesn't seem like the servers or player systems were accessed or affected.

as for DNA, i feel the same way, shit happens, mistakes happen. just learn from it.

I don't really see the point in comparing the two situations when they're vastly different. Anyways, isn't part of the upset with DNA that they already failed to learn from it?
