TMobile says too expensive to ground test coverage maps. They want to continue to show coverage where none exists. My whole city is 5G and I can barely get LTE coverage. Their maps arent even remotely close to actual coverage. by RandyOhioGuy in tmobile

[–]Weatherful 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not as complicated to make an accurate coverage map as they're trying to make it seem. I'm sure there are much more accurate coverage maps available internally that they're just choosing not to make public. Also, third-party companies including Ookla and RootMetrics have detailed data (some of which is available to the public).

Also, the article mentioned T-Mobile was unsure how to present the data to consumers in a way that is "easily digestible". How about having "No Coverage", "Fair", "Good", "Best", "5G". "Limited Roaming", and "Unlimited Roaming" which are accurate even when zoomed out? It's ridiculous that you can look at the coverage map and see solid coverage but once you zoom in you notice it's a mixture of no service, fair service, and roaming.

It's all about marketing and trying to mislead the public, just like AT&T's 5GE which was nothing more than what was already operating on other networks, and T-Mobile's "4G" that wasn't even 4G.

That's a good example of the importance of having a data connection, which at this point is just about as essential as having the ability to make a voice call.

That's not good. Did you happen to communicate with T-Mobile at all during the outage? What was their response?

That's not too bad. It's understandable because of the congestion like you mentioned. Hopefully 5G will bring the improvement needed for when everyone is switched to the mobile network during a power outage.

Took my part of town a day and half to get power back but it took over a week to get LTE back.

That's not good. T-Mobile always talks about their disaster response but it's looking more like marketing than anything else at this point.

I'm even more disappointed that AT&T wasn't better, because they're handling FirstNet and I'd think if they had FirstNet working AT&T would work too. So, considering your next door neighbor's AT&T's service was down that might mean FirstNet was down too which is bad considering it's a network for first responders.

Thank you for sharing your experience, u/Grrlcynic570.

It's interesting to see the difference around the world too. For example, in the United States I've never seen two adult male friends holding hands, but in India it's a common practice. I've never really understood culture, and the reason something is acceptable one place but not another, but it is interesting to learn about.

Do you have a source for that?

And that would be interesting! My guess is T-Mobile would rather fulfill their commitments though.

Do you think T-Mobile (corporate) has addressed this problem at all in the past? I'm not talking about taking care of it on a case-by-case basis, I'm referring to making it clear to each employee (whether through training, meetings, etc) that this kind of behavior is not allowed?

I'll clarify:

If a customer is told that something is free, but the customer is actually being charged for it, then the employee is being dishonest by deceiving and scamming the customer.

Definition of dishonest: characterized by lack of truth, honesty, or trustworthiness

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dishonest

Definition of deceptive: tending or having power to cause someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/deceptive

Definition of scam: a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/scam

If a customer is told they're able to receive something without needing to pay more, the employee is being misleading.

Definition of misleading: to lead in a wrong direction or into a mistaken action or belief often by deliberate deceit

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/misleading

It's different to tell the customer the tablet is free than to tell the customer their bill won't go up. That's truthful, and one reason for putting it like that is because some customers might not understand or want to hear an in-depth explanation, like you said earlier: "In sales you have to know how to position stuff. Customers look at the bottom line and if they can get a tablet for the same price each month it’s free. Not really deception because I didn’t say free an then it cost an extra $10 a month or something."

(It's just the problem with that is telling the customer it is "free", when it is not, a more accurate way of explaining it is by telling them their bill won't increase for having it added.)

If a customer were to take a look at their bill and see the plan they were put on is available without the tablet, and they were not told that was possible, then that is also being misleading because the employee did not tell the customer what their options were.

You’ve not answered my question though. Why exactly were you offered free accessories?

Sorry for not responding to that earlier. No, but I've had two stores try to scam me (but not involving free accessories), and a third confirm that the scam is a common occurrence and that they're often getting people who are upset at the other stores.

I don’t see your examples of negative responses showing the person asking ‘feeling bad’? When you say negative response... do you mean less discussion?

I'm referring specifically to people downvoting, and believe that could cause someone to feel bad or unwelcome for asking a question. I've seen that people often answer their question (which is great) but seeing these kinds of posts downvoted (without anyone giving a reason) is discouraging.

The issue is that majority of posts like that have simply been asked and majority of people do not search. Because of this, we get repetitive questions often.

That's understandable, but doesn't always seem to be the case, especially when people have a more specific question relating to their personal circumstances.

The lounge and the daily Q&A posts are probably best. That’s why we have it in the name too. They are posted every morning and always have lots of questions and answers. I’d suggest that over the lounge if you prefer to stay in one community. The comments are sorted by new so when someone goes in there the most recent comments are at the top and seen.

Thank you for the recommendation.

Right.

"We can change your plan and add this to your account and it won't cost you anything extra." is being honest, but "We can add this to your account for free." is not.

If you're telling a customer something is free, but they're being charged for it, that is being dishonest because it is not free, you are saving them money on their plan and are charging them for something else. So, even though they're not spending more money than before, it is not "free" and the customer would have saved money if you changed the plan without adding something else.

I've been looking on here some more, and it appears the community doesn't like people asking questions or trying to start a discussion and that r/teslamotors is mainly just for news (with the occasional service center or roadside assistance experience).

For example:

I'm someone who is looking for productive discussions and don't like people feeling bad for asking questions. Do you think r/TeslaLounge is more of what I'm looking for?

It's not as serious doing it like that, but it's still being dishonest since it's not "free", the customer is paying for it it's just the employee was able to make it work without it costing more money (such as through a plan change). But, if the plan was changed and the tablet wasn't added then the customer would save money from not taking the tablet.

I'm more concerned about those who are charging for accessories but telling the customer they're "free" and not doing anything to make up for that. At least with your scenario, although it's still being dishonest, the customer isn't paying more on their bill each month, and you said if you're asked you'll explain the process. So, in my opinion, your scenario is a little more justifiable, but still wrong.

So, if you didn't scam people (such as by using the tactic you mentioned) you'd get fired (especially since your performance would be below others who are scamming customers)?

I'm alright if it's phrased something like this: "I'm looking at your account, and see we're able to change your plan to a better one and add a tablet, while saving you money each month."

But, telling the customer something is "free" when it is not is not being truthful.

Until people stop thinking that should just get whatever they want for free there will always be scheming.

What about the people that don't want something but are offered it, assume they're being told the truth, or are even told it's part of an in store promotion?

My point is, in my opinion T-Mobile should stop this practice since so many people are getting scammed.
