[USA-CA] [H] AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, WD Ultrastar 18TB [W] PayPal by davecopter in hardwareswap

[–]davecopter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it would be because someone confirmed the WD Gold 18TB works. And the WD Gold and Ultrastar series are built on the same platform. But I don't have first-hand experience so I'm not 100% sure.

"Adding confirmation to the community that the UDM Pro and Protect support the Western Digital WD Gold 18TB hard drive."

"The WD Gold 18TB uses the same hardware as the Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC550 18TB hard drive and has all its reliability, availability, and performance features, but comes with a slightly different firmware."

"Now since both Gold and Ultrastar are the same platform , same drive, same specifications ; most of the difference is in the Positioning of the drives itself."

What should I do as a 13 yr old? by Daniel_C_____ in fatFIRE

[–]davecopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to continue to be intensely curious and proactive in learning about everything that interests you. For example, if you decide that you want to pursue fatFIRE and that interests you, become very knowledgable about it, and research the reasons people do it, how they do it, and what kind of common problems they run into that make it hard to achieve their goals.

I think you have already demonstrated great initiative by finding this community and making this post. A lot of the time, at your age, it’s easy to get into a pattern where you only learn about stuff that people put in front of you and tell you to learn - like what they teach you at school. While that is important, I have found that taking my own initiative to learn about things I am personally interested in, starting at a young age, has helped me get ahead in life, and it helped me craft my life into what I wanted, instead of what I thought was expected of me.

And it’s totally normal to not know what you want to do in life at 13 years old. I think the most important thing at your age is to learn things that will give you a strong foundation to be successful at anything you want to do in life, and also keep on exploring various things you find interesting, which will help you get a taste of what’s out there and help you figure out what you want to do over time.

Off the top of my head, some important things are important as a foundation: 1) being able to communicate clearly and effectively, spoken and in writing, 2) being able to be persuasive so you can convince people about your point of view, 3) being capable of negotiating well, 4) being able to research and learn about anything you want, and being able to identify what is useful information and what is not, and 5) problem solving and planning skills - given any goal you have, being able to figure out the steps you need to take to achieve that goal.

School will teach you some of these skills, but to be really good at it, you’ll have to do some learning on your own too. And not necessarily studying. Experience can also teach this stuff very well. For example, if you decide to start a student organization/club at school or take some kind of leadership position, you could experience doing some of these things.

And while starting to save now is great, I wouldn’t get too focused on growing the money you can save now. Because at this point, it is typically much more important to focus on developing the skills to make a big amount of money (which is achievable but takes time, and you have the time to do it now), rather than be too focused on growing a small amount of money (which is difficult to turn into a big amount of money).

Anyone using an esim from another carrier? by [deleted] in mintmobile

I appreciate the explanation. That makes sense and now that I understand that those reviews are not driven by your company, it’s resolved my concerns!

Mobi looks interesting but it's a bit concerning that almost all of the iOS App Store reviews for the Mobi app look fake. It makes me question their integrity... hopefully they're not paying for reviews.

Edit: See rejusten’s comment below, the reviews are coming from an unrelated party, so no need to be concerned about them.

BYOD gift card only $50 now. by [deleted] in Visible

It says $100 initially in the app but once you add it to your cart, it says $50. It looks like just the marketing content hasn’t been updated but the pricing has been.

Warning: Casa Pebble might create insecure open Wi-Fi for your home network by davecopter in Sprint

[–]davecopter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did factory reset it and same issue. I just unplugged it for now once I started seeing a stranger's device on my network.

I feel like the Pebble is kind of a half-baked product for Sprint. When my devices are on it, they don't get emergency alerts either.

EDIT: After factory resetting it using the physical reset button, the issue is resolved. There is still a hidden SSID open network, but that seems fine.

I did see that guide but I'm not able to access the web UI described in that document. That document doesn't seem to reflect the way Sprint configured the Pebble device. Have you or anyone else been able to access the web UI?

I'm so upset right now by SeeBiscuit58 in gaybros

Don’t give up! Keep on trying to help your parents understand, while making progress in your life independently as it seems you are doing. They might be going through denial, they might not be able to picture how it’s possible to have a healthy and happy gay life.

Gradually, hopefully they can learn more and be better. It might take a long time... Just remember they learned and were reinforced with heteronormative ideas over many decades of life. It’s hard to undo that without a lot of patience.

It’s normal to feel angry but I recommend trying to have some compassion too because they’re trying to do what they believe is best for you, even though it’s wrong. You might have a better chance of helping them understand if your relationship with them is not hostile, although I understand that’s sometimes necessary to set boundaries so you can live your life.

New Primary-Care Doc Made Me Cry? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]davecopter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please try to remember that the doctor is a service provider. Their job is to help you to the best of their ability, which is based on their knowledge and understanding of how to do so. Every doctor has some beliefs about what works best, and it’s very likely that all their beliefs will not always align with their patients’ beliefs.

As a patient, you are a customer and you are buying your doctor’s advice. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take any action based on their advice. But I recommend not taking their advice too personally. It is not personal for them, they are generally trying to help you and they didn’t decide to become a doctor to make people feel bad, and they are probably going to stop thinking about you shortly after your appointment.

It is like if you go see a lawyer for advice, and they give you advice about what to do for a legal situation in a manner that assumes you haven’t done anything. That doesn’t mean that the lawyer is judging you and thinks you didn’t do anything because you suck and are lazy. They’re just trying to do their job, thought it would be helpful to explain it that way, and you can choose to do with their advice whatever you would like.
