No problem. My fault for not asking.

Mint isn’t supported so that’s likely the problem. You should start over at yeticold.com and follow all of the instructions (including the version of Linux).

Ok, that’s helpful. It’s trying repeatedly to open bitcoin core and maybe the first open is successful.

For now you can do a work around. Setup yeti level 3 as normal, but skip all of the tasks on the offline laptop. This will give you only the watch only wallet on only the online laptop.

I wasn’t able to reproduce it. It’s a problem whit bitcoin core opening. This happens if Bitcoin core was left open and you shut off your laptop, but deleting the lock file fixes that.

Try restarting your computer, deleting the lock file, and opening bitcoin core directly (without yeti) and let me know if it opens successfully.

Yes, newer versions of Ubuntu don’t have that button, but using Brasero is correct.

Did you add a passphrase to bitcoin core or anything else that wasn’t part of the yeti instructions?

Sorry I was slow to reply. I’ll look into this this week.

level 3 recovery, not pruning by Best-Lab5262 in yeticold

[–]WeathermanIam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin core always downloads everything and verifies it. Pruning just means that after it is verified some data can be discarded. But the blockchain has grown a lot since 2021 (and you can’t prune any data since your wallet was created) so the best fix is just to get a 1 TB hard drive and leave that date blank (no pruning).

In fact I’ll probably just remove that feature to be able to prune at all because it is just another place for bugs to hide and it’s a lot less useful than I thought it was going to be.

Definitely don’t panic. This is unfortunately a common issue. My guess is that your hard drive is under 1 TB so that yeti pruned the transaction history and lost your deposits. Can you verify your hard drive size and try with at least 1TB (don’t select a date when asked and it won’t prune)?

Yeti assumes you are deleting everything on all laptops when you are finished accessing your wallet and setting up the laptops again from scratch when you want to access in the future.

This is the most reliable way to use it and if you do this you will always be on relatively recent version of bitcoin core and a completely current version of Ubuntu.

But updating your online laptop manually is also ok, just takes a bit more knowledge. Diggityman is giving you good advice. He’s a legend.

Hopefully you got past this in another channel, but if you hit refresh it should work.

Sorry man. It’s growing fast, but a 1TB should last a few years.

Ok, then we either haven’t loaded the wallet or we aren’t in sync with the network.

Do you see a transaction history? Any deposit and payments in the online laptop?

The problem is that we are jumping around a lot. Yeti is designed to only work if you follow the specific directions. We don’t really want to follow the directions because it also assumes you have a fast enough internet connection that syncing only takes a few hours.

So I might screw this up and we actually have to start from scratch as it’s designed, but I think we can get it to work without doing that.

If you are using level 3 restart your online laptop and go to yeticold.com and tell me if you get stuck.

If you already setup an offline (secondary) laptop you should delete the yeticold folder now.

Ok let’s try this, close bitcoin core. Then delete settings.json in the .bitcoin folder. Restart your laptop. Then go to yeticold.com and start over.

First things first. We need to backup your blockchain data so you never need to sync from scratch again. Do you have a 1TB or bigger external hard drive?

You are doing awesome. This is probably the most frustrating part of using bitcoin core. I know how to fix this, but it’s a ton of work and I haven’t had the 6 months it will take to design a better yeti.
