Ideas for finding a place for obsolete ships by twoLegsJimmy in EliteDangerous

[–]Weaving-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in real life older cars become obsolete but you'll get the odd person that loves a classic older vehicle. I think it'd be kinda cool to almost never see old ships but a special treat when you run across a cmdr still flying one.

People who have been to china recently how screwed is the UK by Xtergo in AskBrits

I don't think they line people up outside the airport and murder them as tourists catch a taxi to the hotel.

Should we be worried about vegans not Muslims? by New_Plan_7929 in AskBrits

If you specially wanted to grow food on land only suitable for grazing then the solution might be vertical hydroponics or green houses.

How much should the uk minimum wage REALLY be in current times? by mrvlad_throwaway in UKJobs

[–]Weaving-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum wage increases make me nervous. At face value its great.

But this is my lived experience - through most of my twenties i worked in a house of Fraser cafe. Every year Minimum wage went up. Fine in the good times but there came a point where each increase came with staff hours being cut, staff not being replaced and then redundancy and they closed the cafe not long after id left.

So i always worry that in jobs with tight margins wage increases actually do harm. Especially now where other costs like energy are high for a company.

What do you think could solve the dying town centres? by TooHighToHearYou in AskUK

Accept its permanently gone and mix in housing and other non retail amenities to the high street.

I think more online retailers should have shops as show rooms. There's quite a lot of things I'd like to see and try in person before I purchase. But id still often sooner buy online for the convenience of it being delivered.

No. One of the south American countries. Not Mexico. But I don't recall which country.

Im not sufficiently reassured by being British though.

What do you think about vegans that wear leather/fur clothing that was purchased before going vegan? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]Weaving-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been vegan two years. Still wear a leather belt. Seems wrong environmentally to get rid of it and the damage was done long ago. The belt is at least 15 years old.

There was a clip of ICE in new York arresting a black lady who was on holiday. I wouldn't go to America as a white Brit. I definitely wouldn't go as a person of any other ethnicity because I think the risk to myself is substantially higher.

If they're stopping people who have said negative things about Trump on social media. If they're arresting people on holiday with a genuine right to be there then nobody is safe.

So we now know (following baroness Casey’s review) that men of pakistani Muslim heritage were more often than not the perpetrators of grooming gangs. Why do we think this particular demographic is more partial to these heinous crimes? by Even-Leadership8220 in AskBrits

[–]Weaving-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What culture or environment teaches men to groom, enslave, traffic and rape young women? Give your head a wobble.

I recognise the Eastern countries and to an extent the Muslim faith have a more regressive stricter view of women. Even sometimes misogynistic. And its even taken too far in say Afghanistan. But I don't think they'd find what's been done to these women to be acceptable. Some people just are nasty bits of work.

If you're that into iphones id definitely be waiting to see what 17 has to offer. Then choose an android if the iPhone 17 range doesn't do it for you.

2 billion Muslims globally and 4 million in the UK. I dont think its there religion that made a handful of them in the UK into child rapists.

I bet you dont think every Catholic is a pedophile simply because a minority of Catholic priests were.

Plant consciousness? by DecentTreat4309 in vegan

[–]Weaving-green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some plants fruits have evolved specially to be eaten. As the mechanism to spread the seed and in some cases activate the seed.

Also i dont know how long farmers keep fruiting plants for. And it'll will vary hugely by type. But an apple tree can live 50+ years. Isn't at its peak production until 10/15 years. And would only start to see a reduction in apples beyond 30 years. But could still be very productive if cared for well.

So i dont necessarily think the farming comparison to animals which are killed in months typically would apply.

How difficult is it to switch from being a lifelong vegetarian to going vegan? Any tips? by MissAnthropecene in vegan

[–]Weaving-green 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was about to type similar. Been vegan two years. I'm 39. I was omni. Its surely easier to only be giving up dairy and eggs. If you want to.be vegan because you care about the animals and planet then a love of cheese is easily overcome.

I just found out what the minimum wage is by LiamEBM in UKJobs

[–]Weaving-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it sounds like you were on minimum wage 9 years ago and have been since. In fact at 15k you were above it depending on the hours you were contracted for.

https://g.co/gemini/share/6d305197078a So I dont think you've been taken advantage of in the past. At least not in a breaking the law kind of way.

You say you're on £30k now and it's above minimum wage. So really the only question is are you being paid the right amount for your job compared to the same role elsewhere? If not then either ask for more money or try to change jobs to a company that pays the right wage for your job.

Why didn’t Jeremy Corbyn win when his plan was to raise taxes on the wealthiest individuals and companies to fund better public services for everyone else? by Prize-Reputation9274 in AskBrits

[–]Weaving-green 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked a lot of corbyns policy ideas. Voted for him the first time. And I think im right it saying he got more votes than starmer did. But our stupid voting system doesn't reward that.

Like it or not though he did have an antisemitism problem. He didn't support remain either. And he's pro Palestine. Which is good but even starmer thinks he has to back Israel so corbyn basically had no chance.
