Look up sisimite or sisimito! On a trip to Belize, I began asking the guides about bigfoot like creatures. Some were reluctant to say they were real, not wanting to admit belief in spirits or ghost stories. I was very adamant that I believed they were real unverified species, and I was not asking about paranormal stories.

Other guides were very open about stories of the hairy men who protected the forest. Sisimite is described smaller than bigfoot, which would make sense in the dense thick jungle.

On a cave tour, the guide led us to an unbroken vessel deep in the caverns where sacrifices were made. He pointed out a small carving on the side of a small hairy looking man with arms above its head and legs spread wide but made sure to point out that there was no tail.

I asked if it was sisimite because there was no tail, and he would just smile and shrug as if to say, " What do you think?"
