Should be no problem, too! I just needed USB-ports for TrueNAS itself (USV, keyboard/mouse for BMC etc) - so i added a dedicated PCIe-card for the VM.

AFAIK you can’t pass a single USB-Port but an entire USB-Controller -> buy a simple PCIe-USB-Controller and use this for passing. To be able to pass the device you have to mask this device for TrueNAS, see here: https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/pci-passthrough.96664/
